There are ways to avoid some of these issues.

• Set up your gaming room so that any windows face west.
• Fit blackout curtains.
• Wear an eyemask.

The work one is trickier but ensuring that you aren’t the one driving on the way there is a good idea and if work involves decision making/dangerous equipment/interacting with customers or anything else requiring a functioning brain consider calling in sick.
