So I ended up being wanted EVERYWHERE!

I took a few missions of questionable legality and after some casualties (I shot the Sheriff and the Deputy) got a notoriety of 5 or so.

Not a problem as I was a few systems from home where I remained heartily welcome.

That was until I took another mission, still a fair distance away but I got a bit carried away and stayed in the fight just to see how long I could survive against successive waves of ATR!

Notoriety 10.

By the time I bugged out and wandered home I found that pretty much every system with a base was hostile to me. Which wasn't much fun in a Vette with a range of ~17 ly!

I eventually found a safe haven and on my last gasp of fuel made it to safety.

What did I do wrong?

In the end I just left the game running to wipe the notoriety and paid the massive fine. I'm OK with being wanted in a few systems but everywhere was a bit too daring...

Its just my opinion but when some NPC interdicts you and drop and hes rated average or something and you are flying a fully engineered combat ship and hes in type 6.....well thats just harrassment. He can shoot at you all day but you cant shoot back or you get even more wanted. He has no realistic possiblity of "bringing you to justice" so why bother...

Your bounty with a particular superpower aligned faction grew large enough to become a superpower wide bounty, valid in all other aligned faction's jurisdictions.

This. The most vital piece of equipment for a criminal. No hatch-breaker, interdictor or gimballed frag. A fuel scoop.

THIS is the correct equipment for a criminal:

Just order the spaceship model, and it requires a bit of EVA.

Probably got a few interstellar bounties; they make you wanted across an entire superpower, not just one faction.

The problem (bug?) is interstellar bounties are meant to kick in when you reach a certain amount of bounty on your head for that superpower, but it seems not distinguish between superpowers for that purpose.

So, you might get 300k bounties with various federal factions, and then you end up with a 300k Federal Interstellar bounty. But then do much as sneeze in an imperial system, and that'll become an interstellar bounty too, even if you haven't got any other criminal record in the empire.
