So, I Finished My Coriolis, And...

With the most excellent assistance from CDR K Olley, I finished The Big Twinkie today, a Coriolis over a terraformable metal world. It took a twelve hour shift to do it.

Once completed, my natural instinct was to search for another system to add to my network. I switched to my Cobra 5 (heaven after driving a T9 for so long), and started searching around all my current systems:

HIP 85548 The Big Twinkie

To give context to the area, The Big Twinkie is about twenty light-years from Pand. It's a loose string of systems with alternating economies, so that one system has what the other wants. With a fifteen light-year bubble around each, it's a pretty big "caterpillar" of potential colony system spheres to search.

After an afternoon of searching, and my doggie eyes drooping, I found individual stars, stars with ice cubes, stars with rocks, stars with ice cubes and rocks, and one with a water world. That what was left unclaimed. No systems with gas giants. None had enough orbital or surface slots to permit adjusting economies, adding orbital installations, etc. They were all basically systems that might just justify a single outpost.

I also found that Commanders around me had built out systems that complimented mine. Extraction, refinery, and agricultural products were all there to trade with, and within jumping distance for a fully loaded T8/T9.

I leaned back, drank a chocolate Ensure for dinner, and then took a nap. Everyone should take more naps. I'm a dog. :)

After my nap, I felt a lot better. then the idea came:

Maybe I have enough systems.

My Coriolis gives me the parking garage I want. I can trade internally and externally. I have pristine GG rings for mining. There are tons of missions and lots of passengers to be carried. I'm close to CG's and events, instead of being out in a nebula Wild West, without indoor plumbing. And Wal-Marts. I have an alt account in Colonia for that sort of thing.

As a solo commander, I truly need a fleet carrier, and assistance from others to take on any more projects. I would rather just explore on my own, than join one of the big player groups.

Enough of the twelve hour shifts.

The clock to finish new construction is not running anymore. I'm free.

Note: If anyone colonizes a system that I'm first discoverer of, please send me a postcard. "Wish You Were Here".

Well done! I have three systems, two with a Coriolis as the initial port, and the third, largest system has an outpost due to the biggest world having 3 surface slots, but there's a lot of the 3-slot worlds (over a dozen icy moons around gas giants). I'm not sure if I should colonize a new one or fill out my claimed systems over time. Regardless, will wait until the 30th and the patch before doing anything more.

It's good not to have the pressure of knowing the construction clock is ticking.

I like the exploring, surveying systems around my bases,I figured when I find something I like I clam system. Worst case it expires or abandon claim.

"Maybe i have enough systems".

Wise words.

Everyone will have enough systems sooner or later. The next great systems is always just a jump away.

An outpost is nothing. A coriolis is nothing. To fully build out a system, you need to haul at least 300k tons of commodities, and then it is a small one.

One can play wide, then it is 22k per system. Or one can build tall, and then you need around 100k for just the basic functionality, like a refinery Coriolis with 2 hubs.

I did that. HMC planet, two Refinery hubs and then a Coriolis.

and on that Coriolis, you can guess...

I sincerely, SINCERELY hope they will fix this insult tomorrow.

I was lucky as I built a Coriolis above a hmc and got four basic metals. Added a refinery and got the steel etc.
I did it the other way around, first the two refineries and then a Coriolis. And got a literal biowaste :)
So it has to be done your way.
But let's hope tomorrow's patch will fix it.
