So i tried open...

I know that karma will return this to me, but I have exact the opposite experience in LFT-133 CG in OPEN. Lots of friendly folks, participated in both CGs, ran some gold hauls, haven't been interdicted once, it was a great experience and lot of fun. Especially the HAZ rez in shadow, where we ran out of pirates.

I go to CGs at times but I've never had any issue at all, only got stalked a couple of times, I also attacked a few ships just for fun and always made it to a safe place, your best option it to highwake to another star, after all even in the real world soldiers can retreat and normally they will not be chased down by the enemy, enemy can win without killing you, there is no point in inflicting a loss of money to another player, no gain in killing players either unless they are wanted or in a Powerplay scenario if they are destroying ally ships, no other reason to kill another player at all

Whilst I've always be pro PvP and for adversarial play styles, not least of all because of the way shooting at others has been so maligned, I'm starting to see this becoming a problem nowadays. Generally speaking, in my own history of fighting players I've mostly only attacked players or a group on my tod.

Its clear though that wings of players attacking lone players or ones without escort is a bit unbalanced, the choice is either be prepared and accept it or turn to solo/pg. Some of this comes down to the fact that the game is divided with solo and pg. It hasn't fostered or really promoted players acting together, and Frontier have been reluctant to facilitate guilds in game... Sure you can hop in Mobius and see only friendly players but beyond that even with the player faction stuff, the game is a singleplayer experience for most, one you can play with your mates. From time to time I'll play in a group but for the most part of my ED experience I have played as lone wolf. I'm pretty savy and always expect the unexpected which is likely why I've never been 'griefed' despite getting in to some dodgy scrapes.

What I wouldn't like to see is a system that punishes PvPers.. Yet its hard to deny the present situ can be unfair.
The solution to which is to play together with folks being escort and so on but the game just doesn't promote or reward it. For those that are playing on their own in Open they are at a real danger around CGs or areas of interest.

In an ideal world pirating and bounty hunting players would strike a natural balance. Reason why this isn't happening is because of some of the choices FD have made re the game. Its hard to offer my services when people can simply use solo or pg..

It might have been a well intended system when DB thought it up but solo/pg is not really working out well for the game as a whole and its a poor substitute for something much better. Tough one to resolve..

At least he high waked. Better than some other 'escape methods' I have seen them use...

Yup, and then they claim they did it to "prove a point."

I'm sure you did guy, I'm sure you did. Funny how peoples tones change when they are on the receiving end of their own shenanigans. Again, it says a lot about them and what they're doing in-game.

Yup, and its amazing how they act when the odds aren't 4-1 in their favor.

A friend and I interdicted a Happy Puppy Child with a 330k+ bounty on his head at the CG yesterday. For a group that's all about "PvP," he sure took no time high waking the second he realized he was outnumbered.

Funny how that works.

What was he supposed to do? Kindly stick around and be destroyed?
And it underscores a question I always ask when people are complaining about being "griefed:" Why doesn't everybody just hi wake out when being drilled by a wing of PvPer's?

Death is a choice in Elite Dangerous.

A lot of people have big mouths, but no bite. Theyre perfectly fine ganging up 4-1 on, and ridiculing, solo pilots flying non-combat ships, but tuck tail and run the second a real fight appears. I mean, 2v1 against a no-name PvPer like me shouldn't be an issue for such experienced, well established PvPers.

My experiences with the more "notorious" pilots and groups has shown me their true hypocrasy. It's the same simple minded, unoriginal bully mentality that exists in many online games.

These people aren't looking for a challenge, they're looking for reactions. They use the anonimity of the internet as an excuse to act upon their most anti-social impulses. I've seen them in-game, I've listened to them speak over coms. It's all about validation and attention seeking through "bad" behavior. They take perverted joy in causing others grief. When they violate their own MO, it's excuse after excuse. It's childish, plain and simple.

Hahah, I can't disagree with you there. Maybe he was a probationary member:)

There is an engineer experimental effect on explosive weapons that can force a FSD to reboot.

It's only for mines. Missiles don't get this option. Fairly worthless in PVP as few people would give up a viable weapon slot for a one-trick mine, which requires you to purposely put the bandit on your six.

But that's also the point of PVP - it doesn't have to be fair, it doesn't have to be balanced, as this game is not an e-sport or something like that. Once again I bring EVE Online as the perfect example on how PvP should be done in general. Sandbox is a sandbox. If there are griefers, there should be people hunting griefers. But you can't hunt a griefer who just combat logs out when sees trouble, because it's imho just a cheat. But hey! You can't opt-out from PvP in EVE Online, but you can do it here - just play solo mode and that's all. But if I enter open mode I exepct it to be harsh and unforgiving experience as people are usually merciless beings that like to kill eachother even without purpose ;)
I know Elite Dangerous do not want to mimic EVE Online and that's ok, but why not to use some of really good ideas and incorporate them (maybe in not exactly the same for as it works there)?

I also thought about "warp scrambler" mechanics. Still, I fear there's no way that could work out. EVE is made so that more fragile ships - and easy to pin and gank - can warp very fast, faster than the targetting system needs to pin the target. In ED, even the most fragile ships have the same FSD timer.
And you did not mention the defense mechanic (warp stabilizers in EVE) - forgotten or intended?
Elite works in the way that each internal slot can be used for utility or cargo. For traders, sacrificing slots for such defence utilities means sacrificing cargo - thus profit - thus make the process of trading in open useless.

In the end, everybody would have warp inhibitors and warp defence - status quo again, only with one less slot, which would render some ships inoperable.

1) You can't unfortunately apply the same rules in these games
2) I really don't approve of the "it doesn't have to be balanced" stance. Fun for the hunter and grief for the hunted? "you gotta be the hunter then!". Nope, I have no time, with my peaceful activities. Don't turn the game into a frustration wall for me please. I'm in for danger, not for insta-death which I can't do nothing against. What kind of game are we talking about?
3) Griefer hunting will never truly happen. Because there's no real way to identify griefers first, no way to look for them (loss of time) and no real reward for that either. Just the risk of having your combat build destroyed and paying the bill. EVE again : bounty mechanic! Much, much lulz. Nobody hunts for less than millions and millions bounties - and they don't even mean a thing. Some gankers put a bounty on my head - after gate ganking me! fun times.

I like both games but the marriage would only bring some impure, mishappen breed. Leave them where they are!
