But that's also the point of PVP - it doesn't have to be fair, it doesn't have to be balanced, as this game is not an e-sport or something like that. Once again I bring EVE Online as the perfect example on how PvP should be done in general. Sandbox is a sandbox. If there are griefers, there should be people hunting griefers. But you can't hunt a griefer who just combat logs out when sees trouble, because it's imho just a cheat. But hey! You can't opt-out from PvP in EVE Online, but you can do it here - just play solo mode and that's all. But if I enter open mode I exepct it to be harsh and unforgiving experience as people are usually merciless beings that like to kill eachother even without purpose

I know Elite Dangerous do not want to mimic EVE Online and that's ok, but why not to use some of really good ideas and incorporate them (maybe in not exactly the same for as it works there)?
I also thought about "warp scrambler" mechanics. Still, I fear there's no way that could work out. EVE is made so that more fragile ships - and easy to pin and gank - can warp very fast, faster than the targetting system needs to pin the target. In ED, even the most fragile ships have the same FSD timer.
And you did not mention the defense mechanic (warp stabilizers in EVE) - forgotten or intended?
Elite works in the way that each internal slot can be used for utility or cargo. For traders, sacrificing slots for such defence utilities means sacrificing cargo - thus profit - thus make the process of trading in open useless.
In the end, everybody would have warp inhibitors and warp defence - status quo again, only with one less slot, which would render some ships inoperable.
1) You can't unfortunately apply the same rules in these games
2) I really don't approve of the "it doesn't have to be balanced" stance. Fun for the hunter and grief for the hunted? "you gotta be the hunter then!". Nope, I have no time, with my peaceful activities. Don't turn the game into a frustration wall for me please. I'm in for danger, not for insta-death which I can't do nothing against. What kind of game are we talking about?
3) Griefer hunting will never truly happen. Because there's no real way to identify griefers first, no way to look for them (loss of time) and no real reward for that either. Just the risk of having your combat build destroyed and paying the bill. EVE again : bounty mechanic! Much, much lulz. Nobody hunts for less than millions and millions bounties - and they don't even mean a thing. Some gankers put a bounty on my head - after gate ganking me! fun times.
I like both games but the marriage would only bring some impure, mishappen breed. Leave them where they are!
