So my save data's gone.

No, no that's not really solved, now is it?

You can delete your save just by clicking one menu option and then clicking OK. My 4 year old daughter can click OK like a boss even though she can't read properly yet. She just knows the irritating pop-up box goes away.

If she had to type in a password or even just the word "delete" then it'd be impossible for her. But could she delete my save the way the game is at the moment? Hell yes she could.

This is just newbie programming, the way that option is set up at the moment. Seriously. It's not like no other MMO (and this IS an MMO, make no mistake about it, even if it's not all that social sometimes) has ever run into this issue before, and taken steps. Look at wow or swtor before they changed it - delete was a single click, followed by an OK. It was found lacking, and they changed it. FD need to do the same.

I've read some of your posts Black, and you usually make sense. This.,...well, again, monochrome viewing.

It's still your responsibility to make sure the doesn't click the wrong thing. If you're going to leave her alone at the computer, where she can do damage to something like files, or a game, then you get what you deserve. As a parent, you should be watching if there's something you don't want your child doing.

that said, sometimes, there's a way back, other times, there isn't. in the OP's case, it'll depend on the facilities of FD, if they can restore a single accounts save records, and if they have a current enough backup. We don't know if they do daily backups, I'd think they should, but theory and practice are two different things.

Boo! This is a gross misinterpretation of what happened to the OP.

I have recruited at least 5 new players by letting them take the controls of my PC while visiting at my house.

The game allows you to save the login credentials, there is no possible way that they could ban for someone clicking play. The suggestion that they would is ridiculous.

The game also allows you to NOT save your login credentials. Sort the messes on YOUR end yourself !

Thinking and acting responsibly on your own is still allowed.

FD support is responsible to sort out FD's messups, not yours.

Edit: Sorry, this really gets me all worked up.

A simple verification by account password when attempting to delete a save is all that is needed. It should be standard as a save here could be months, then eventually years of work.

Ah, children. You gotta love em. Maybe she was telling you to play less? Showing you that investing in a virtual reality is taking away from the real world, giving you no benefits? Showing you how unhealthy and hurtful this obsession with made up worlds is? THAT YOU SHOULD LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST? If you cry about bits and bytes, it is not fun. When a game hurts you, leave it behind.

Also, the save is on the servers. Stop saying it is local please.

Sorry, can't talk anymore.
My Python needs better modules.... must obsess more.

That sucks OP! I'm still flabbergasted that EDs save delete process is so basic and flawed. It surely wouldn't take more than an hours worth of coding to be on par with every MMO available and require the CMDR name be typed to confirm vs simply clicking OK to confirm. Not only is it an obvious improvement but it would save the unlucky few a lot of hassle, not to mention allowing Frontier to focus on more important things. Really hope that FD address this simple fix in an upcoming update.

That'd be perfect solution, IMO.

AION have a perfect way of dealing with this. When you create a character you assign it a pin number, to delete the character you have to enter the pin. The pin is entered via an in-game "keypad" the digits of which have their locations randomized every time it appears and you can ONLY enter the pin via the keypad.

Thinking about it, EVE deals with it well too. When you delete a character there it doesn't get deleted straight away, there is a 7 day cooldown before you actually get the delete button.

first question .... how did the sister get into your account ? (password)
second how dod she find the config options .....
Third is there no ingame password check when it comes to your save ?

doesn't sound like she could get to all of that unless she was loged in to your account on the computer.. so did someone log her in ? and if so why
did you leave yourself loged in while at work ?

keep your secrets safe - noone else can unless you run the security services

My baby sister was at my place the other day with my Fiancee while I was out on business. I get home today to find my save had been wiped. My fiancee said my sister deleted it by mistake while she was away from the PC.

I had 37 million in net worth and a whole lot of star data on systems I had been. What do I do now? My fiancee offered to play the game and grind away at it until she got me back up to the credits, the woman's addicted to trading in this game, but honestly the money I couldn't care less about. that was just a means to the python. My ranks and status with the federation is what I really cared about. That and my Viper. I had it fully kitted. Now I don't even want to boot up my PC. I really don't want to start this over yet again. What should I do? Can frontier do something to get my data back or is it back to the freegle again?

Look, you have a woman who not only loves the game but want to help you with it.

You are the Lucky one.

Can't argue with you there. I finally just let her restart it a few hours ago. She's got enough to buy an Adder already. Sold the freegle. I'll take back over once she has enough to get the Viper back.
