So, Planet Coaster has Denuvo.

Why did you put DRM denuvo in this game. LOL. I hate drm, learn from companies like CD Project, doing free DRM games.

I'm quite happy it is DRM protected especially as it is still in Alpha. Steam allows you to play on multiple PCs so it should not be a problem to people who have bought the game.

Yeah, you kinda lost a purchase there Frontier, if this is true. DRM is basically just insulting your customers really; only the people who pay for it have to deal with it. The people who pirate the cracked versions have got files with the protection removed, so they don't have to put up with it.

So thanks Frontier for your mistrust! It's misplaced and rude, which is a shame because I've been following this and intending to buy it since the first alpha came out, but no more :(

No problem with Denuvo though. It's a good system and they are protecting their asset just the same as you would yours so yeah silly post really.

... Did i ever said i was attempting to pirate the game? LOL.

It's just i don't like drm

Why on earth does it make any difference?

What is there 'to put up with' exactly?

Unless you intend to do something with the game you shouldn't, I can't see how Frontier protecting their product could inconvenience or even affect you in any noticeable way?

I've never understood this anti-DRM argument.

So I'm guessing you attempted to pirate the game? If so then I will give no further comment.

hmmm. I Don't really think this is the issue at hand. The issue (at least for me!) is that most of the people who made Denuvo are formerly the Sony DADC team, who were responsible for placing rootkits in customers' computers, also securom which was a horrible mess and now no longer operates on modern versions of Windows.

To be honest, I would NEVER use any software that had that kind of pedigree. Why would any sensible human do it? That's like using the NSA as your ISP.

I won't be buying planet coaster for the above reasons. Unless it gets cracked, then I'll buy it and crack it, since I don't trust Denuvo as far as I could sneeze them out of my ear.

Especially denuvo works quite well. I have some other Games protectet by this system and every Game works just fine. Not the slightest trouble with Denuvo. Its not like the old days, where many people had trouble with CD-ROM drives, that cant read some copy protecting systems. Planet Coaster is such a great game and it deserves the best protection available. Look how fast Alpha 1 & 2 got pirated. Its a shame. A Good Game deserves it to buy it!

For your information. This is the same team acquired in a Management Buyout, leading to the birth of Denuvo. As I mentioned in a previous (as yet un moderated) post, it's NOT a good pedigree, and I don't trust anything those clowns put in my computer.

In light of the controversial subject matter I think it's prudent to remind everyone of this section of the Rules & Guidelines:

i never said anything about piracy, and i don't support it. I just was talking about denuvo, as i don't like any type of drm in games.

Warhammer Total War is a great recent example of how people overreact to denuvo when it has zero impact on legitimate customers.

Also denuvo is anti-tamper, not DRM. It protects the DRM (in this case Steam as PC now requires Steam) from being tampered with. It does not cause frame loss and it does not break your game. The only people upset about denuvo are pirates as it's one of the more effective anti-piracy measures currently used.

Ah, A self confessed Pirate! [big grin]

if you say so. Not entirely what I'm getting at though :p

I don't pirate anything. I have a Steam account with hundreds of games on to attest to that. However I will definitely not support Denuvo, or the people who use Denuvo for reasons listed above.

I can understand the majority of people in this forums don't actually understand what denuvo entails for PAYING consumers, and that actually dont affect pirates. Forums with people more versed in videogames have plenty of stuff dedicated to how denuvo is actually bad for the game.

Let me explain:
-Usually hogs the system and makes FPS worse, in fact, are you seeing the multiple 970GTX and 1080GTX guys around the forums having sttuters? (BTW I have a 970 and the game works better than alpha 2 on my system, but its not the same for everyone it seems). Wouldnt surprise that was denuvo in action. Its not the first game that has the same problem, and it will not be the last.
-People can still pirate Denuvo games, in fact wouldn't be surprised to see alpha 3 pirated in a week.
-It depends of the developer, but denuvo actually can have restrictions on number of installs (per system, per time...) Maybe is not the case of Planet Coaster, youy will need to ask Frontier, but dont be surprise if someday you have a new computer and when you go to install again the game thinks you are pirating your legal copy.
-Sometimes makes it harder to create future mods.
-People from the videogame community, that actually are buyers and know the problems denuvo can bring to the table, will refuse to buy denuvo DRM games (thats why sotres like GoG, with no DRM whatsover, exist and are profitable). And no, they will not pirate so they can play it, they just will not buy it and play another game.
-Steam is already a form of DRM. Enjoy having two now (newsflash: this will not stop pirates still)

There you have it, theres more but those are the main problems denuvo usually comes with. Some games had even to take out denuvo drm later in their life when it was discovered that was what made the game run worse in some computers and patches couldnt solve it.

Now you are better informed I hope you think again that is not everything as simple as it looks, and much less for DRM. And im actually a videogame creator that would like my work not to be copied (so dont try to acuse me of being a pirate, becuase as you can see from my post I bought the game legally and Im even part of the CHC, apart of having, as today 299 games on steam), but is better usually to treat consumers better (like CDPR does) than force your real consumers a handicap becuase you are afraid of already pirated copies that will never have been bought in the first place, DRM or not.
