So, Q4 update should be the biggest update? Let's bet

Since we already know that carriers won't be introduced and are delay to an indefinate amount of time later, I was wodnerign what else Q4 will present.

Exploration and mining overhaul. This sounds actually promising with more tech and interesting gameplay rather than scan-scoop-jump and holding LMB or the primary firetrigger. However, with all the new gameplay additions, we still don't have any reason to do mining in the first place. Same with exploration. Except if you are a tourist and photograph, there is no point in exploring the 'verse as there is absolutely nothing *useful* to find. Some rare exceptions like Dav's hope for material farming, okay cool but even that is a boring gamepaly that involves more relogging and scooping than anything else.

Furthermore, more modules mean bigger ship requiernments and we need more internal space. Let alone all this nonesense with the limpets. Get one single module that can fire different types of limpets and get rid of the cargo requernment on top. Exploration? Allow us to find rare blueprints that we can personally unlock so for example we could mod tech broker modules with them. Heck, I'd go treasure huntign all the way ... if there would be a treasure.

Anyhow, let's skip the boring part and jump right to the point of this thread.
Personally, I don't believe that Q4 will bring any meaningful content or changes to the game. You can polish all of your worthless gameplay but noone will do it as long as it is worthless or boring (worthless in terms of credit/material rewards or something else). Why mining if I can do 50m/h with missions? Why exploring if I can rank grind with passengers 10 times faster? Why trading if I can do haulage missions that give way more profit?

So my bet is that all these changes will be highly played upon release or during the beta but then barely touched due to nomeaningful or valueable rewards. We are excluding the fun here, people will always do something that has no actual point if it is fun. Examples are PvP, BGS, PP and the like. They are of no use but for some they are fun and these activities are played.

However, my bet (and fear) in that matter is that Q4 and thus, ultimately the whole beyond series so far will be a multicrew and CQC of bigger scale. Once touched and then barely used again as there is no reward, no actual point in doing it. The fear is coming from the announcement that there won't be any update coming soonTM after. Not even for the carriers. What's next? Another paid expansion? You gotta deliver and finish the first season pass first. The foundation is simply not yet finished, let alone from a technical point of view. Elite is unable to put more than a hand full of palyers into one instance without serious and game breaking issues like desynchs, extensive lag or loss of information. How can a whole carrier of a full group with many players be implemented and most importantly, what should it do? We really don't need another mobile station. There are more than enough already. And why would you want a carrier in deep space? Explorers can survive on their own anyhow and it's not like you suddenly need to switch loadouts to a combat or trading vessel in deep space.

Lastly, what can squads look like? Since carriers won't be coming? What else could squadrons bring to us that is not already there? Official clan tags? Already available through ship names. Official war declarations? That would be interesting. Our own minor BGS faction and controlable station? Yes pelase, though Frontier has never done any significant and deep changes to existing content. I believe squads will be nothing more than a clan tag and a forum or station board function that has absolutely no impact on anything. We also know that we can't store and share equipment amongst squad members due to "gold digging fears" (which are straight forward said, blantly stupid. Other games have player trading as well and it works perfectly fine).

So after beyond has ended, we will still be stuck with most of the original issues like netcode, balancing issues, lack of end game content or actually a reason to paly this game beyond a Type 6 and a Viper. If it wouldn't be for PvP, the BGS or PP there wouldn't be anything to do.

Finally, what exactly did take so long to develope? I'm not seeing actual results.

Just because you only like PvP or BGS or PP that does not mean that everyone only likes those things.

There is a vivid exploration community, and I guess there are people who like mining too.
Lots of people in this game roleplay this or the other career, so why not give them more meaningful gameplay?

I wait to see what Q4 delivers, could well be that you're right, could be that you're flat wrong, but for me it makes no
sense to think about it now. Let's just see, plenty of time to Doooom later :D

Things to discover and tools to find things are the new content for exploration. If that doesn’t float your boat I’m not sure exploration is for you, whatever they do to entice you out into the black it’s still going to take a lot of patience and time to do anything meaningful. And I’d be very surprised if exploration ever turned into the most efficient way to make credits.

I'll just leave this here:

Let me put it this way ... I can see the Q4 changes getting me (and many other people I suspect) involved in the BGS where previously it held little interest.

The BGS is what gives activites purpose. Unforuntately the BGS was not visually appealing, or tied together very well with other activities such as mining and exploration. That very well may change in the next update.

So... you haven't seen anything, don't want to believe anyone who did but you already know the outcome.

Ok. It goes without saying that despite what anyone will love about the release you'll still claim "Told you so, it sucks".

So we can skip to the conclusion that it's pointless for us to debate all of this and it's pointless for you to waste any more time on this game.

So long then, bye. Also, don't want your stuff.
Ciao.

I have a job that pays real monies, so I play games for fun gameplay, rather than for fake space monies. If explo and mining gameplay is fun, I'll do it. Some fun times, and even for free.

If OP wants to write lengthy posts about how he refuses to have fun until he gets more fake space monies: different strokes for different folks.

...

The Q4 update hasn't released yet

it hasn't? And here I am, playing the game wrong again and having fun ... thanks for clarifying, I will wait with enjoying the game then until Q4 updates drops (and is deemed good enough to have fun).

The main thing about the exploration changes for me (beyond gameplay) is that we will now have the ability to find stuff that is already on the planets without having to actually *look* at every square km of it.

For example I know that volcanics have been in game for a long time but I've only ever visited ones with a tourist beacon attached. There's been plenty of times I've looked at a planet description and thought "ooo that sounds interesting" but balked at the thought of eyeballing the whole surface at 1000 meters.

I think that sort of stuff will extend my interest after the mechanics become routine, long enough hopefully for them to add more content and maybe even access to different planet types.

Maybe wait and see what 3.3 actually contains before claiming there's nothing meaningful in there and asking why it took so long.

The 17 of us that visited FDev last Thursday think differently to you :)

Did anyone of that 17 ask about the long standing bugs? If not, then not one single one of ye asked what would have been my first question. Which is likely why Id have been barred before so much as leaving the car park...they never did react well to questions they didnt want anyone asking. I wonder who else here is even remotely curious about the end of the Beyond series which was supposed to be about quality of life improvements.

Funny how a year after they announced it, many appear to be suffering some unexplained amnesia ^

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I agree, although it's important to realize that credits are a requirement for a lot in this game, and therefore how much you earn per hour *is* a legitimate concern. I've always advocated for more parity in credit earning between the various professions in the game. That said, I agree that if something is fun in and of itself you don't need any other justification for doing it.

As for the upcoming updates I do hope that there are more things we can discover out in the universe to go with our new tools to uncover said items. We'll see.

I would like to think that Frontier are finally getting on top of their comms and correctly setting expectations.

The little snippets that I picked up from today's Frontier lunchtime stream:

- The you-tubers / streamers who saw what was proposed for chapter 4 were impressed with what they saw.
- The streamers didn't hold back with some of their questions. Ed & Will both took notes about the things that couldn't be answered in the session directly. Here's hoping that they'll have answers by the time the launch is ready
- Ed & Will were seeing some of the chapter 4 content at the streamer session either for the first time or for the first time in context.
- They feel that they have enough information for six Thursday night streams
- They have a number of fixes for known bugs in the works (such as the console crashing SRV bug) and are targeting it's inclusion in the chapter 4 update
- They want to do something for the DW2 expedition and are talking with the expedition organizers.

There'll be plenty in the chapter 4 release. :D
Bring on the Beta

We've reached the point where every profession earns more than the exploits in the first year. Balance/parity is always important, but the primary concern is whether an activity allows one to progress. They all do. :)
