So rare trading has proven very lucrative to me. Help for newbs

I would agree with the above. Useful though these threads may be I find both the thread and rare commodities in general a bit of a cheat. Maybe it's just sour grapes as I am not in those systems, I don't know. I know I shouldn't be influenced by others and should play the game my way as what others are doing does not matter but you can't help but feel you are being left behind if you are not money grabbing. Stay strong or succumb to the greed?

If you look at influence in Fuji, Leesti, Lave etc.. you can see that everyone is doing this.

Might be time to hang around these systems and limpet some cargo haulers right?!

Rares do restock after awhile, even if you haven't sold off your last buy.

Also this route beats smuggling and bounty hunting in LHS 3447 (my start system) anyday for profit... but I think I'm going to buy a Viper and go back to my bounty hunting, for small change.

Firstly this is an awesome thread. Just have to put my observation in though, I bought out all the Azure Milk and Leesti Evil thing at Leesti, then logged off for a few hours. When I came back, the rares were restocked (I was parked at George Lucas in Leesti).

I've just gotten to Altair and bought some Altair skin and logged out for the night... let's see if there are more skins tomorrow!

IIRC you're a allowed maximum of 14 evil juice and 7 milk at Leesti.

If you buy 13 juice and 6 milk, you could log off and come back later or wait about 10 minutes for 1 of each to spawn.

If you're going to trade in rares it's worth noting down what your maximum is at that station, if you're 1 rare sort, it might be more time efficient to go to the next rare station, rather than wait 10 minutes.

I believe this waiting for a maximum of X rares to spawn, (could be as low as 7), sometimes up to 20 minutes is yet again, another unneeded time sink.

On the trade route the OP has given you'd be wasting your time stealing his rares. Unless of course, you're going to steal them, then fly the 170ly the other way to sell them for a profit?

Does your route take into acount that some rares are illegal in some stations? I'd hate to get blown away after collecting all the rares and traveling 170ly....

Is there any point in outfitting my ASP for cargo runs and do this? Seems this rare trade thing works better for medium sized holds, else you will fly mostly with half full cargo hold?

Currently I just do assassination missions (mixing in some pirate hunting), I make about 180K + 50K (other bounties on same target) every per 20 min. I often have 5 concurrent assassination missions going. I wait for USS spawn by sitting in super cruise at 0 throttle... making the whole process quite quick. Shooting the anacondas down is getting very very boring.

Before I've done 90K-100K profit 1 jump 15LY trade routes with laykon-6, so about 90K every 10-15min. Boring as hell after some time.

Mining is not for me ... picking up cargo in space is a massive waste of time (if you farming USS and trying to keep you nose clean). Mining cagro pickups just sux.

I've done exploration, 150LY trips ... its profitable, but after some time everything looks the same ... point is there is nothing to find! Its not like I am going to stumble across targoids yet ... so why do it? All the USS really are just like 14 different random events. Its similar solar systems over and over with nothing other that oohh another pretty sun/white dwarf/gas giant. I am confused when people say "exploration" ... why do it? There is nothing to find (yet).

I am currently very aligned with Empire and getting soooo bored I am about to rage-quit ... seriously thinking about going rogue out of pure boredom going full on pirate against anything federation.

I LOVE this game, mostly how well all the ships fly ... but crud, it really seems there is nothing much to do.

I really want to keep on playing.

Is rare trade fun/profitable in ASP?

Thank you for this. Since the final nerf introducing the illogical cap on rare goods, I have searched for something that could render rare goods trading viable again.

What's illogical about the cap?

The monks at Saint Sixtus do the same thing with "the best beer in the world". Maximum 48 bottles per customer and you can't return in the same car for 60 days. Rationing the beer so greedy resellers can't corner the market.

users.telenet.be/sintsixtus/sintsixtus/eng/brouwerij.htm

They ask you not to sell it on to anyone but it occasionally appears for sale at 20-30 times the original price.

Sounds quite like the rares in Elite.

Hopefully this helps a few who were struggling with the grind for cash. This at least makes it feel less grindy imo. Also it might be good to have exploration tools on your ship as you will almost certainly run into quite a few unexplored system and the extra cash is nice for fuel/repair/amm or just more savings.

Thanks for sharing. Big up some rep for you.

I'm making money and having fun in a T6 so yeah. With more cargo capacity you can do bigger routes.

I never wait around at a station for more rares to spawn. I grab whatever is there and scoot on to my next stop. I can make 2 more pickups in the time I would have spent waiting for 1 more rare to spawn.

Easy to use tool for keeping track of your run.

is this worth it over regular trading with an asp?

Yep. I crunched the numbers today - rares trading is a more efficient money maker until I get a Lakon 7 and fill it with cargo racks. Not just more efficient, by more efficient by a factor of four or so (comparing my local trade routes with my rares run route, which isn't too dissimilar from the one posted in the OP.)

Although I'm wondering why Tarach Tor got missed off the long list posted by Jyve. It's right next to Tanmark. Admittedly, it's an anarchy system, but it's right there and if you're comfortable avoiding interdictions worth slipping in there.

I do rare runs with my ASP. 80 Tonns cargohold and no troblem to fill it up. My route for you:

1. Orrere - Sharon Lee Free Market (Anarchy - they buy everything )
2. Leesti - George Lucas
3. Lave - Lave Station
4. Diso - Shifnalport
5. Uszaa - Guest Installation
6. Zaonce - Ridley Scott

Thats the "Lavecluster"... fill your holds. You get around 70 tonns. Then head out to this destination:

1. HIP 10175 - Stefanyshyn-Piper Station (sell all stuff here its 242 Ly from Lave, so you get max Profit ! )
2. Momus Reach - Tartarus Point
3. Witchhaul - Hornby Terminal
4. Fujin - Futen Spaceport
5. 39 Tauri - Spaceport "Porta"
6. Tarach Tor - Tranquillity
7. Tanmark - Cassie-L-Peia
8. Utagaroar - Fort Klarix
9. Chi Eridani - Steve Masters Station (after this stop my hold is normaly full)
10. George Pantazis - Zakam Platform
11. Epsilon Indi - Mansfield Orbiter
12. Altair - Solo Orbiter
13. Xihe - Zhen Dock

Then return to Orrere and cash in :) its a huge roundtrip and you should be ready to defend yourself. My tips for Type-6 Commanders and ships with weak weaponary:

Always equip Point defense turrets, chaff & flar launcher and shield cells in case you get interdicted. Try to get away until you are owing an ASP. Then shot back... Don´t forget a matching fuel scoop !!! For Type-6 around Class 3-C or better. And upgrade your FSD as soon as possible to get around 20 Ly jumprange laden.

And always... please... eqiup an shield ! Don´t fly without to max cargo. Every pirate will get a slobbery mouth if they detect you are shieldless. Its not worth the few credits. For Type-6 at least class 4 shields and ASP class 5. Always try to get the best what you can afford. But keep insurance Money at bay !!!! Don´t risk to much...

Hope to see convois soon :) would be great to escort traders with my warfare ASP !

Its getting me around 2 to 2.5 million a roundtrip. And its fun to me. Hope you can enjoy this too !!!

Jim...

P.s. All rares are legal !!!

I left that out because no one wants to buy it on the route :T
And no rares are illegal anywhere on this route.
I mainly posted this to help people get their funds to do what they really want to do. And the more attention is brought to this unbalance, the faster (hopefully) it will be fixed.

And you can squeeze a class 3 shield on an ASP for extra cargo. It's not the greatest but it will protect you from light fire and the occasional ram. It even stood up when I rammed the docking exit almost full speed. Just bounced off and went on my way.

Do you mean Orrere? Thanks.

They are no less viable than before. You just can't have a T9 full of a single "rare" commodity and haul it across the galaxy. That seems logical to me. On an Asp you can make 1+ mil in about an hour. And many thanks to the topic starter for the 2nd cluster

I'm sorry, but isn't Wolf Fesh from Wolf 1301 illegal at most places? That's what it says in the description. If true that means you are smuggling and have to avoid scans at stations and can only sell it at a black market. I don't want to risk that.

here is a tool that is absolutely fantastic for making your own rare route: http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/

I am currently doing a 72 stop rare run. I am loving it. Credits per hour can be beat by normal system to system trading in anything bigger than a L-6, but I often get sidetracked hunting at nav beacons or doing the odd mission here and there along the way.

Rares are safe to go anywhere. this has been tested and confirmed
