So this is actually a thing...

Yeah the Feds get their guys seconded to the imperial navy and get them to rank up so they can buy cutters. I expect the imperials do similar so they can buy corvettes. The alliance has the right idea though - just sell to anyone with enough cash. ;)

Some time ago there were conflict zones with imperial and federal forces and the wrong battle cruiser for each party.

Alliance CMDRs used to steal Fed and Empire ships until we got our own :D

We still have a couple Imperial cap ships to put into action, though.... ;)

I saw quite a few people complaining about Imperial CMDRS flying Corvettes or Fed CMDRS Flying Cutters but it actually seems to be a legit thing.

All "naval" rank is strictly honorary and CMDRs can fly any ship they want to.
I am ranked both full Admiral and King so, which ship should I fly?

Where does a bear sit when it enters the room? Wherever it wants.
I fly them both. I fly them whenever and wherever I want. o7

The picture was taken in the Wangal system. Wangal is controlled by the Empire. They therefore own the shipyards, and Imperial-class ships are offered for sale there rather than Federal ones.

So, for the local yokel NPCs lookin' fer a fight, they go down to the shipyard looking for an off-the-shelf warship... and all they can buy is Gutamaya stuff. So, everyone buys Gutamaya ships, no matter what allegiance they plan on fighting for.

Not terribly rare, nor particularly implausible.

Most arms manufacturers, even heavily nationalized ones, have export versions. Afterall, that military industrial complex that keeps the toys rolling out can't get by on just tax dollars.
