So . . . . Type 8 eh?

No one needs to remember stuff like that
I mean, he had a PD of 6 on his way out.

The medium hardpoint seems to be behind the cargo hatch:

Hi All :)

None whatsoever.

They weren’t even mentioned in passing.

Yep, I was hoping we'd have had a small snippet of information about the 'new' feature, still, as long as it's going along as Frontier have planned...no problem. ;)

I must have missed something in the video ... how many utility slots does it have?
And the speed of the ship wasn't named either :(
I think it's a bit slower than the Python, which Mark 1 or 2, not sure, (at least that's what I can gather from the livestream info.) :)

Optional Slots...
1 size 1.
1 size 2
1 size 4.
2 size 5.
3 size 6.
1 size 7.
Don't forget though it's still a 'work in progress! :)
Edit ...Ah! Sorry, I've not woken up yet!...As Northpin states below, nothing was mentioned about the Utility slots.
(I need tea and toast 🥴).

Jack ;)

August for T8, don’t know if it’s early access or full release.

FWIW, a streamer (and actual man of the cloth, afaik) "Father Bill" indicated he got clarification from Arf that it would be Early Access in August for the T8 (which makes sense, that they'd have a rolling EA ship available as long as players buy in enough numbers, IMO).

Why would anyone design a cargo ship with this shape?

They wouldn't, but its fantasy, and we all have certain expectations about what spaceships should look like.

If the spaceship never needs to enter an atmosphere the best shapes are probably either spheres, cubes, or really long and thin. But in fiction we get things like the USS Enterprise. If a ship needs to enter an atmosphere it usually wants to be aerodynamic for flight (Some Star Wars Alliance light fighters... not the Tie Fighters, which make no sense), or like a rocket if its just going to go up/down (eg: The Expanse), unless the drive unit and construction materials don't need to worry about thrust, aerodynamics, etc.

In Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy, the main character's ship, The Lady McBeth, is actually a sphere. Not what we have come to expect from spaceships in fiction.

On the other hand, Chris Foss created some spaceships that if they ever entered an atmosphere would likely break apart instantly.

So, the answer is simple, in reality they wouldn't, in fantasy go crazy.

It makes sense:

P2 - May/Aug --> early access / full release
T8 - Aug/Oct
3rd ship - Oct/Dec
4th ship - Dec/March

Considering the last update of 2024 with the mysterious "new feature" would probably be in December, the above schedule fits nicely. The December will also mark 10 year anniversary for ED and 40 anniversary for Elite series.

Any word on when you streamers get your hands on a preview of the T8? Was it a couple of week before the preview last time?

But... The Poor Type-7  😂

So, no rework for the Type-7 ?

Type-7 had it's role at the very beginning of this game, when we had to calculate repairs and fuel costs (YES, FUEL COSTS) so the trading can be lucrative.

Type-7 was economical with fuel & repairs which were astronomical back then. That was it's purpose, as a viable stepping stone to Type-9. No one had any intentions to keep it after acquiring T-9.

Then, sometime in the ~first year or so, FD drastically cut down fuel & repair costs, and it became obsolete.

Yeah. I still really really dislike that change. Used to absolutely love my T7 back then, spent lots of hours in it.
