So what are the Alpha Backers doing now!?

Hi Commanders….

I was just wondering what all you Alpha backers are now doing in the game now?

I’m a casual player, stats

Trading - Merchant
Exploration - Pathfinder
Combat – Master

I’ve dropped out of Power Play, wasn’t for me as I enjoy making my own game up as I go along.. I mainly play in Empire, bounty hunting and do the odd bit of exploration and trading…

Goal – Elite in all skills…

Ships, I’m currently having fun with are…

Vulture – Great for combat, need to try the FDL… Next on my list…
Diamond Back – Explore and Scot
Cobra - For old times

Having loads of fun….

I rarely stray too far from the founders world. It always feels like returning home and there are often a good number of backers outfitting there.

I have a graphite imperial clipper. I just do the odd mercenary or trading job when I get the time. I recently took a diamond back out for an exploration tour.

Still my most played game since January 2014.

Exploring out there, seeing what there is to be seen. No real aim or goal other than seeing what there is. As it turns out there is quite a lot.

Still trading (around the Founder's World :D), doing the odd bit of bounty hunting and CZ combat on the side - but don't get much time to play at the moment.

Still touting a T7, with an Eagle and a Viper for combat stuff.
Still working up my credits to get one of the 'higher' tier ships (Python, FdL, Anaconda) - I know, shock horror, I've not ground my way up that far yet!!!!

Most importantly, when I do play, I'm having a few hours of fun at a time, and get completely lost in the game.

I potter about. Mainly shooting stuff for an hour here and there, waiting for the "next big thing" to happen.

There's my Freagle parked up at Shinrarta; I pop in to dust it off every now and then and drop some oil down the bores, check that the Optimate's connected...
My Cobra gets a bit more use, if I'm up for some Open play and throw-away combat I tend to jump into it "for a laugh" as it's cheap to replace.
My Asp gets more use when I'm in an exploration/trading mood.
At the moment, working on combat rating, so I'm in a Vulture - works through NPCs like I'm swatting flies with an 18 pound lump hammer.

Aspirationally I just potter away, when the credits amass to enough to purchase the next big ship, I upgrade, but I'm a long way from anything like a Python or an Anaconda. I play games on a PC purely for enjoyment, and there's not much of that here, so it's slow going I'm afraid. I've tried it all, before someone tells me to :) but nothing really floats my boat. I realise I got the game wrong and I understand my needs out of a game much more now - I need an end game in my game. I need a purpose :)

I am still in post-1.3 maintenance mode, having attained one of four new Federation ranks (Empire ranks complete). It's been a slog for weeks now and I don't know whether the requirements for the next rank have been made just outrageously high now, or whether it is bugged. In the meantime my reputation with the Alliance and Empire has decayed to friendly, as has my motivation to play every day, and then often only half-heartedly, rather waiting for what comes out of the rank progression issue, whether it's simply broken for some people or whether it is meant to be this slow. I actually wanted to have this done within a week after 1.3 release, and then go on with my regular play, but alas, the game had plans that seem to exceed my patience. *shrug*

Grumbling, mainly.

When I find the enthusiasm to play, which is getting increasingly difficult, I explore. If I ever get back from my current trip up the Perseus arm, then that should take me to Elite in exploring. Unless the gamescon announcement is something I want (0/3 (0/4 if you include CQC) thus far), then I suspect I will just give up. So much potential, so many disappointments.

Having a lot of time off work I managed to claim a system in power play on the edge of civilized space. A nice Anarchy patch right beside an Authoritarian Technology Empire that imposes huge fines and bounties everywhere, except in my little slice of Lawless Utopia. I've been defending it vigorously and learning to mine and bounty hunt in the local resource extraction sight. It's fun and next door to it is a system that sales rare commodities that I ship with me whenever I head in to the center of the galactic bubble to stock up on Tranquil Tea. Some times I bring some Battle Weapons with me...

I'm full on involved with Power Play. Which has interrupted my transition to an Anaconda. I run the Aisling Duval facebook group, do a bit of roleplay there which I pass along ingame to my character.

Rankwise: Expert, Broker, Pioneer. I explored for ages, but it's taken a back seat as I throw myself into PP. Not that I have time for Rank 5, so I hover around 3 or 4.

Right now I'm flying a T9 as I get back to making funds to get that anaconda.

And I write the occasional GalNet article. Of the two I've submitted, both have been published.

And on here I try to keep reminding the Dev folks: Ship naming, Tier 2 NPCs and Ship's Crew. Some battles I won't give up.

Same here really, and I do understand *exactly* what you mean about having a purpose. I recently completed the main story in GTAV, and there's still loads of stuff to do in it, but I can't be bothered, because I've completed the main story :D
Elite feels the same way, don't get me wrong, I love the gameplay, I love the game, as far as I am concerned it is pretty much what I expected from the Kickstarter, in some respects it has exceeded my expectations - but yes, finding a purpose, a reason to want to play is not so easy. Let's hope the next update coming from FD will add something a bit more compelling.

Not in since alpha, but i started right before beta ended..

combat = competent (i'm just now trying combat)
trader = entrepeneur (i've primarily been a solo space trucker until now)
explorer = trailblazer (i've done 1 2500LY trip in my python, that's about it)

I have a trade anaconda
A python i had fitted for mining, exploration and small pve combat (it's not being used at this time, gave up on the mining stuff for now,)
An Asp for exploration (i went 1000LY out in my python and realized if I'm going to do this I want the Asp instead, for the jump range.)

And currently i'm flying a new Vulture doing conflict zones in Yupini, which has been a lot of fun!

Looking forward to the upcoming news for gamescon and lavecon or whatnot.. not sure what to expect (i do expect tier 2 npc's, though i've no idea to what degree)

Not Alpha but early Beta.

Bimbling around and enjoying myself, running missions and some bounty hunting. Also pledged to ALD (which is interesting as I'm mostly in Fed space).

Probably have enough for a FDL or Python if I cashed in both my current ships, but having too much fun in a DBS to sell it. Might swap the Vulture for Python when the time comes.

Master/Merchant/Trailblazer

Kickstarter backer here, started playing in Beta. I'm taking a bit of a on-and-off approach to Elite at the moment, as there are (far too many!) other games that also need playing. My ranks:

Combat: Master
Exploration: Pioneer
Trading: Broker

Oddly I have exactly the same rankings as the OP! I've just got back from doing a bit of exploring I think I might do a bit of trading next. Generally I do whatever takes my fancy at the time. Overall I'm just meandering along towards the Elite ratings by doing whatever takes my fancy at the time!

Alpha backer, actually playing GTA5 trying to put out of my mind the immersion-breaking horror that is Power Play, once done (could take some time) then I suppose I'll go back to bounty hunting in beautiful planetary rings in my FdL or fighting Capital Ships in a Viper, waiting for Planetary Landing before going out on exploration again...

Alpha backer, finished GTA 5 too. ;) I play seldom enough already, and then I'm mostly grinding for money and a better rank. To me the game's mostly ruined. Too much afterthought-PvP-stuff added I couldn't care less about, and the basic game seems still far from finished (introduced with hull damage model on the Anaconda and guess what: it's still only the Anaconda that has hull damage e.g.).

Beta backer here, i can’t find the motivation to play since PP, was hoping for so much more (missions). I have a fully upgraded clipper for pirating, but since you can’t really cover your costs, i only pirate for role play reasons. When i do login, i mainly fly about in the cobra, most fun ship in the game, especially when it’s kitted out for speed and you continually boost thorough a RES field up and over the roids, that never gets old :D
