So what are the current direct backwards compatibility issues that are actually still present and active as shown in last week on PS5 play...

Not the issues you had months ago but actually happened on play from 5 to 9 sept 2022...
Many users have Quit console so this frees up allocation on servers, improving compliance and reducing lag and network issues...
Not PS4 pro bugs like modes not making any difference but crash to menu only on PS5...
Solo bugs
playing with dial up speed AU user in open instead of AU fibre users don't count now as many of those user now are no longer on dial up speeds, Finaly they were upgraded...
Amazons latest PS5 direct from amazon Email offer ... not third party sclapers offer cut prices not raise them on PS5, so many people gave in to the new lower price..
Disc version for the price of digital edition...

Don't know. Don't honestly play much on the PS5 with Elite now. I am guessing this has never been fixed so worth keeping in mind when jumping from PS4 to PS5.

Last reported as still happening In August this year.

The bug report is still up unloved but, good luck 🤞👍🍀

Not sure exactly what bugs you are talking about but I'm on a ps5 with fiber and I'm not seeing huge problems. Sometimes it crashes but I don't lose content. Mostly when laser mining is when I've seen crashes. Graphics are stunning.

Crashes to menu that ONLY happen because of using BC mode on PS5..
Crashes that never happen on OG PS4
Never happen on PS4 Slim
Never happen on PS4 pro...
What are the current bugs that crash to menu.. and can they be avoided

Crashes that are caused by using NON native PS4 hardware as the PS5 is not using a native PS4 chip set it uses AMD emulation of last gen hardware modes to run PS4 software and this leads to PS5 crashes only....

Ive had WOWs legends crash to menu allready using BC
Ive had wreckfest crash to menu all ready using BC
Ive had just cause 4 crash to menu allready..
Those titles never crashed on PS4 never got blue screen once but on PS5 they allready crashed to menu...
2 of those titles instead of trying to fix BC mode have NATIVE PS5 versions that dont crash to menu... but Elite dangerous will never have that option...

Just cause 4 never crashed to blue screen once on PS4 hardware but it is known to not run well in BC mode om PS5 seams they lied about fixing all PS5 issues...
Horizon zero dawn was meant to be fixed as well it had patches but i have avoided playing it as if they have not realy fixed it. its going to ruin the game...

From my experience it seems to be systems with large numbers of carriers where it's worst (regardless of which platform the owner is on). What the 'at risk' number of carriers in a system is and whether you can avoid places with that many carriers is another matter though.

Elite has always been the most crash prone game I've played on PS4 or PS5 over the years, so it's difficult for me to say it would be backwards compatibility or it's just Elite being Elite.

Graphics are identical to the PS4 Pro and tbh look bad compared to a PC unfortunately because it's stuck in 1080p and upscaled to 2160p this is not good and elite seems particularly bad compared to other titles. Probably because it's got a lot of lines and text and pretty bad AA even on PC. 😢

Luckily as you say no content is lost when crashing. Sometimes it can mess up the local stored data but, if you have PS Plus you can just download this again.

With regards to crashing we never fully got to the bottom of it without FDevs help. It appears it's worse in active systems with players playing or fleet carrier movements. CG systems were the worst for me.

If you live in the black you might never suffer a crash at all on PS5

Crashing with elite was definitely one of my worst back compatible games. Cyberpunk 2077 was the worst but, now it's got a native PS5 app it's fine. Red Dead crashed once or twice for me but, most back compat games I've had very little problems with. Cyberpunk and Elite definitely the worst two.

All commander progress and inventory data is saved on the server side. One could suffer a corruption in our local save, but you'll just have to re-apply your settings that you changed before the corruption happened. You don't lose your CMDR savestate this way unless you delete it yourself, or Fdev does it for you.

OK we have CGs...
So instead of getting "orange sidewinder" as on PS4 does in heavy traffic systems,, it will never get the chance on PS5 and the net code craping out will just generate crashes on PS5 instead of fdev error codes...
So over the next 9 days it would be normal for that to happen on PS5...
( I played retro game resident evil 7 for many hours in a row zero crashes but that games way harder not in VR than I remembered )

It could even be an 'orange sidewinder' or some other internal error which is handled badly by the PS5 backwards compatibility and results in a CE-108255-1 crash to desktop. In very busy CGs it could become almost unplayable with multiple crashes in very quick succession.

At least the PS5 loads Elite pretty quickly.

It's never unfortunately been actively investigated by FDev to my knowledge and if it has they have never acknowledged that unfortunately.

PS5 is like Odyssey to me, in that I once was very excited about it, then I saw it, and over time I have lost all interest in it.

The irony is that I can thank Frontier for nudging me to PC gaming, which I resisted for a long time. I still have my PS4 (heck, I still have my PS3) but except for a couple of legacy games, I'm now a diehard PC gamer all the way. I still appreciate the role of the console, but one of the roles it played for me - good gaming at a cheap price (I always bought the Slim on sale), has been lost in the PS5. The role of being "more stable" than a PC has also become a thing of the past, as this thread points out.

PS5 is great, as are gaming PCs. Wish Odyssey was coming to the PS5 but, there are plenty of decent games on both.

Gaming PC + PS5 is the best of both worlds IMO.

I actually like Odyssey on the PC and it's still a real shame it's not coming to the PS5.

It means with regard to this topic about the problems running Elite on PS5, they will probably never be fixed. 😢

Stupid FC leaving system while i am in supercruse was first ever Crash to desk top in elite dangerous on PS5 hardware for me...

System was full could not get my FC in..
Other carrier left while I was in super cruse in system crash to desk top....
My FC can now jump in as now room in system...
That is classic orange sidewinder on PS4 trigger boo... over crowded system with FC leaving regular...

I definitely agree it's a shame that Frontier abandoned Elite on consoles, especially the latest generation. While I'm not the console gamer I used to be, I don't deny that they remain a hugely popular platform for gamers. Someday I hope to read a book in the vain of On the Edge: the Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore except about Frontier, where somebody reveals the behind-the-scenes meetings where the decision not to bring Elite to the latest XBox and PS5 was made, and why.

If anything, I wanted Frontier to go the opposite direction and not only support, but also provide cross-play between all the platforms. Cross-play has been quite the booster shot for Overwatch, and I'm saying this as someone playing on console against PC gamers.

Nice bit of diagnosis mate. (y)

The carrier movements definitely were an issue, but, sometimes I did observe carrier movements in and out of the system without a CTD so it's all a bit grrrr.

Now if only they could fix it... ;)

so progression log..

Ive not had a single Game client error code not a single Cobras, adder or sidewinder colour cobra engine failure code.... this can be put down to the fact that so many users have quit console version so its way easier to process the data for the servers... but its likely not thats normal for activities ...
Ive done mining for hours now I've done combat blowing smeg up... killed thargoids Zero game engine error codes... and no crash to menu thats normal for these activities...
But as soon as you get near HIGH FC count systems it craps out in Classic Orange sidewinder form due to FC movements in systems... This would have triggered orange side winder on PS4 on PS5 it just crashes to menu instead... unlike PS4 you actualy make the jump to next system so the upload to server made it through the down load never gets to the PS5 client and crashes the PS5 to menu...

Off to kill more thargoids as long as no bodies FC jump in or out for a while...
