Engineers So... what you're telling me...

Pardon?

Park FDL near engineer.
Oh wait you've got to find a station that sells the asp.
Hunt for station...half hour later....found it.
Oh wait I don't have enough credits to pay for the asp.
Grind credits for an Asp...a couple of hours later.....Ok got enough for the asp now.
Oh wait, I've got to outfit the ship to make that jump less of a chore.
Grind credits for the upgrades.....A couple of hours later.....Ok got enough money for the upgrades now.
Upgrade, plot the route and we're off!
Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, INTERDICTION! Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, zzzzzz, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop, Hyperspace, Fuel scoop and we're there.

Fly to the engineer, turn in alloy.
Fly back to the station where you stored the FDL.
Sell the Asp's modules to make the money back.
Sell the Asp.
Fly back to the Engineer.
They now require me to go grinding for mats????

Add in all the times things don't go as smoothly as that and you get interdicted 20 times flying to a station and maybe you'll come to realize what a massive PITA it is just for that one unlock.

You could have travelled half way to Maia in the time it took you to type out that forum post.

Yea, you do that in a ship like the Asp or you do it in an FDL. And you are exaggerating finding one and getting it out there. Unless you are carrying a bounty or mission nobody is going to interdict you.

P.S. it's not a PIA - it's actually MUCH EASIER DO IT IN AN ASP THAN FDL, which is what the OP asked. Don't like it, go ahead and fly your FDL out there to 'save time'

Not true. You can get chain interdicted just by carrying a few engineer commodities, zero bounty, zero missions.

One or multiple 'oh look there's the ship with all the loot we heard about' type NPCs constantly spawn and interdict. The only advantage to these types are they are local, vs mission tied NPCs which follow forever and teleport ahead of you when you jumped with them behind you.
