I'm not sure that Frontier even knows what they're doing next as DBOBE has stated that they have no roadmap, well maybe not one he's willing to show us anyway. This worries a little as Frontier seem to be a fan of hacking together game features.

there is always a roadmap, but gambling with the release dates...well...i have never seen this working.
i guess the best "roadmap" we have is the DDF, atleast if they stick to some of the old ideas there...in what order is another question though.

I really hope for a nice exploration system update. We are still waiting for so much described in the DDA.

1. Dark Systems with Hyperspace Exploration Drones & Heat Map Scanning.
That would be a thing that could actually add some gameplay to exploration. Some real things to do and think about for scanning beside pushing a button to scan and the fly from planet to planet.

2. There should be more to discover than just planets.
Beside visually stunning stellar phenomas(Pulsar, T-Tauri Stars, Quasars) i would also love to actually find something out of the order. Wrecks of unknown origin. Abandoned ancient space stations. Artificial planets. I know, there a very beautiful systems and very strange ones, too. But please believe me when i say that after a few hundred or even thousand scanned systems(don't know the number exactly) you have seen most of them in one or another variation.

3. Spy Gameplay
We have faction wars. Why shouldnt it be profitable to scan the military bases or troup movement of a faction and sell the data to another faction? Even Elite 2 had such kind of gameplay.

Here's the time line how i see it.
Banging PP into shape, E3, some more banging, summer holidays, cya in august.

It won't happen, but if while we're fantasising, I'd like to see an Economic Update:

A realistic, dynamic, living, supply and demand system, that balanced itself, can be manipulated by player trades, and creates its own temporary anomalous booms and busts that you can exploit for high gains if you discover them, until they are exhausted naturally, rather than manipulated artificially by dev nerfing.

I assume they'll want to make use of the new mission system. They've said the framework they have now would allow for more and more varied missions, so I assume we'll see that. If they could just do that and plug a bunch of holes I'd be happy. The foundation is really great, now we just need to have it shine. :)

I'm hoping that the next update gives the missions a really good makeover. We've got a good missions system not, but the missions themselves are still a bit basic.

As well as the standard cargo drop missions I'd like to see procedurally generated missions that start off looking innocent enough, but end up taking you on a wild space ride through pirate infested star systems, asteroid fields, battles and all sorts of other adventures before you finish your goal.

As an example of one such mission: You collect a simple "take cargo to X station" goal and set off on your goal. En-route you're stopped by a ship who informs you that the goods you're carrying contain a secret and he tells you to go to a certain location (like an asteroid belt) in another star system to learn more. When you get there you find a small squadron of pirate ships who tell you to drop the cargo or be destroyed. You now have a choice as to whether or not you do as they ask. Do you attempt to fight or run and complete the original mission?

The game seems to have a system in place that would allow this to happen, but it's buggy at the moment. These types of missions should be rare, risky and offer a bigger prize for completion.

What I said! When is the possiblity of the next update and whatzit?

We will probably find out next week.

I think the next one has got to be a big content addition personally. We haven't had much out of the 3d modellers and textures so far in the past 3 update, so I think may be the next update will be a tonne of stuff from those guys.

An interesting alive universe, like we were promised and cited as the reason for offline being cut.

To enable this missions need to be interesting, if FDev have no ideas then steal from other games. Games I would recommend stealing from X wing, Tie fighter, I war 1 + 2. I war had a brilliant system of distress calls which could be dropped straight ED.

The whole navy/military missions and conflict zones has to be reworked it is pathetic in its current form.

Smuggling and exploration needs love. For exploration I would cut down the number of inhabited systems to a couple of hundred, then let players explore systems with colonies following behind.

Combat is to quick, you can be attacked and dead within a minute. Companies that make Shields/armour need to up their game.

More ships/variants and modules.

Some of these ideas involve very little work, some a lot. What we don't need is more grind.

I would like to see either improved exploration or moving around in the ship (to fight off boarders/board other ships to capture them and re-sell etc, or to repair parts of your ship).

Being able to board a pirate and capture his ship to either scavenge equipment or have a drone tow back to an outpost to sell, or board a trader and loot the cargo etc would be amazing. Or imagine jerry-rigging your life support system when out in the middle of nowhere with parts you have scavenged from your shield generator or something. Perhaps you come across another explorer? Board him and steal his life support machine!!! Great stuff.

I did a "big" exploration run yesterday and it rapidly became a grind - plot a course to some far out system & jump-scan-jump-scan-jump-scan-jump-scan then come back again. Seriously needs some love there.

I would like to see some kind of fleet mechanics come into the game we have wing and now powerplay it is time to take the next step in player interaction

Hopefully adding NPC contacts, better and more varied missions and chains, given a sort of procedural narrative you can follow for a while. Would love to see more sense of direction and mission types from classic space sims like escort missions and such.

Not sure why people get excited by these escort missions. Wouldn't they be just like a normal trade mission except your cargo is a person? Only difference I could see is that maybe one day it might be possible for them to sit in the cockpit with you and have a chat, but of course that's not coming anytime soon.

Escort missions could also include people chasing you down and trying to stop you from reach your destinations.

I could also imagine that the person you are escorting aren't telling you the truth and that could lead to a escort mission becoming a exploration mission or even a rescue mission in the future.

i really wanted to know what Frontier has planned for 1.4 - not the wishlist of what community wanted! I already know what the community wants - i'm just curious if Frontier has "leaked" any basic details?

Exploration Probes. Could use the current limpet system, one type to scan system, another for planets.
Better Missions, currently conflict zones feel a bit crappy, put in some Bigger ships, Would like to see more capital ships period, not flyable by players. Player Anacondas should feel threatened imo. atm the major empires dont feel like major empires with their fleets.
