So why can't we have this in ED? HOVERBIKES!

The link is hardly proven tech and the pic is a fancy drone really. Not much use on none atmosphere worlds!

I personally don't want these in game. Its all a bit star wars/destiny fantasy world for me. Whats actually wrong with a proper off road bike type thing with wheels if you want a bike?

Well, ask NASA they actually believe in that tech, the present hoverbike are based on airflow correct, however it could be based on whatever that gives thrust. Maglevs use magnetism to lift many tons, yes its on tracks but who knows what we will have in 900 years. Anyway, the idea is not something that is just SW or Destiny, more than FTL Engines or visible lasers. But we have the sentinels? just slap a seat on them and woopti HOVERBIKE!

I'm putting this on my wish list. But if we get these then I also want a mechanical death worm to go SRV hunting in :p

Perhaps FD will eventually introduce personal vehicles that use the same hovering technology as the Skimmers currently in the game.
It seems a natural and unavoidable development to me.

This makes sense. I've not seen any info on how the skimmers fly but I would envisage that they use a circular anulus of tiny thrusters that are vectored into a cone under the ring. By altering the thuster outputs and the ring angle they can change direction and fly around. A bike could be similar.

Not sure that NASA do. Their tests have proven inconclusive and were done more as a dot the 'i' process because the guy who theorised it was so adamant and the possible advantages for spacefight could not be ignored.

As for FTL and lasers well FTL drives are theoretically possible but in a way never explained in SW or Denstiny and lasers are used as weapons even now so not SW or Destiny at all.

What SW and Destiny do are slow projectiles of laser light which is . Real lasers which are also as per ED are light speed weapons and fire as such.

FLT Key word :theoretically possible

Lasers : But you can't see them (my point).

Hoverbike : kind of already in the game :D

FTL: True but we already get people moaning about SC. Can you imagine taking months to get from Earth to Mars? The forum would go ape!

Lasers: Again true but it would make shooting stuff very hard and unsatisfying in game or film (any film with lasers though tbh)

Hoverbike: Yes you could use skimmertech but I just don't like the idea of hoverbikes.....OK *sits and rocks*

I don't know, it makes it feel a bit too gamey I think. Destiny and Halo spring to mind floating about over the scenery when you could be interacting with it like the SRV does. I don't really know where it fits in Elite lore. I suppose people have to get around though.

FD have said new types of SRVs will come in the future. Scarab variants at first, but later different models.

Hoverbikes, as light scout vehicles would be awesome.

And everyone loves hoverbikes!

Elite has a lot of hard science, I'm on of those who like it like that. The SC and travels time in ED is just right. Regarding visable lasers, that is also fine, no problem here.

Hoverbikes, are basically skimmers will fit just fine in the ED lore, what is very important is how they (if they ever will do them) make it work regarding life support, fuel and so on. Just because we have a SRV (Rover) Elite will not be Mass Effect? it's just a tool nothing more. However it will add depth to the game and how you play it. Soon we will be able to walk, there will be desert planets and other interesting places to go, sometimes you don't want to travel in a heavy ship or SRV but travel light.

I want one of these just so I can do a 360 degree loop on the edge of a canyon like that guy in Street Hawk did.. :D
