So with all the new announcements ....

I have little interest in single player, personally. I think most of the fun comes from socializing and making friends with other human beings. I'm not saying single player doesn't come with its own advantages, but it mostly doesn't interest me.

As an alpha backer that saw plenty of the problems first hand im still keeping the faith with FD that the dwindling issues with networking will be solved utterly and i'll be throwing my character out into the wilds of full MP.

I would understand the hubbub if it were a +damage boost or some other competitive edge over other players, or an exclusive ship or module of some kind (I hate it when the box doesn't have all the pieces!) but the insurance bonus seems like such a tiny thing to me.

I would like the option to disable the bonus though.. I like risk!

I'll be going MP All - simply because 30 years ago when I was sat at my Speccy watching a Python slip past me as I patiently waited to Torus Jump Drive the next step to the station I'd wondered about how cool it would be if that Python pilot were a human. I know I'm not gonna re-capture my youthful good looks any time soon, but I'm sure my imagination can still take me out to places today's technology - not to mention the laws of physics - can't.

Griefers don't worry me - you can get mugged if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time IRL. Likewise, richer people with shinier cars and friends that get those cars cheap for them don't worry me either - not much I can do about them.

I've played online multiplayer games for almost as long as they've been around, some are great, some awful. I don't really expect too much interaction with the rest of the online ED world , unless I seek it out or a game mechanic makes it imperative (although I'd rather hope not).

Exploits are my biggest concern. Someone mentioned somewhere the idea of hooking up with a buddy, selling your starting cargo, give you buddy the cash and deleting your commander - then start again and rinse and repeat until rich enough to jump straight into what you want - very probably affecting the evolving universe with the dozen or so portable stations you've decided to buy. I'm exaggerating for effect, of course, and I have no idea if this sort of thing is even possible but I do know this: if there's anything to be exploited, exploited it will be. I say exploits are my biggest concern but it's not a concern that gives me sleepless nights. I take heart in the belief that Frontier have an honest and genuine desire to deliver a game that's as rounded as possible. I have faith they're aware of most of the multi (and single, for that matter) player pitfalls and, given time away from fire-fighting alpha and beta bugs they'll do what they can to keep the playing field level.

TL;DR: MP All and looking forward to it, but not necessarily expecting to have to fight through the crowd to get the multiplayer barman's attention.

Depends. I'd like to see the SP scripting. Too-often, a MP game treats this as an afterthought.

If anything it's likely to be the opposite. The alpha 1 build that was SP was extremely polished, and FD has a long history of creating good SP games with their COBRA engine. MP is new territory for them, and whilst it is good so far the current alpha build still needs a lot of attention, particularly to networking issues.

Assuming they are all ironed out I'll be playing MP all-players group as I'd always intended. The only reason I'd move to small-group or SP would be if it somehow decreased network traffic/lag.

Are you looking forward to Solo or multi-player .. just a question, as now I feel (personally) that Solo play is the way to go .. just because I won't have to deal with any "Bonuses" that i couldn't afford ..

(And I hope there is a Solo test, once we get to Beta ..)

I am a single player gamer all the way.
The last time I was involved in multiplayer must have been something like 2 decades ago.
Its the social part of multiplayer that turns me off. Most people like socializing and making 'friends'. I am just a bit different in that respect.
But also the grieving and immersion destroying behavior of others is something I don't need in a game I have been waiting for for 2 decades.

Perhaps the Elite universe is big enough to try some online gaming, but I am not sure yet. I own many games with an online option, but they never succeeded in seducing me. If I try online, I will most likely be going at it as if it was a single player game anyway.

I have been playing a bit of bf3 and bf4 among other games on pc. With so many people playing with aimbots, wall hacks and the like and with other mp games having organised bands of griefers I admit I am beginning to think I truly dislike a large percentage of the PC gaming populace. If they invade the elite d online part of the game it will end it for me. Thankfully the solo game is there, and I will be OK with that.

The fun you get from a multiplayer is really down to the other players. I'm standard Beta. I get this feeling that the game could have gone stale by the time I get my chance to play it. It's possible that the most fun this game could be is actually just now in the Alpha, playing against the most enthusiastic players.

I was thinking of upgrading to the premium Beta, but I can feel a sense of apathy looming in. I might just wait and then play it single player if there are too many idiots out there in space.

Multiplayer, but I plan to be mostly an explorer so I don't expect to meet many other players. On the other hand when I do meet a player it will be a much more significant event.

At this stage, probably single player online for me. Nothing to do with the bonuses though as I intend to switch them all off as long as FD kill us a bonus-killswitch.

Multiplayer - for me multiplayer is the end game that will keep me interested. Also, why own a ship the size of Big Ben if you can't show it off?

Multiplayer.

I only really spend my time on games with a multiplayer. aspect. I might occasionally delve into a single player game but it is not for very young as multiplayer is just more fun.

I tend to play with people over voice-coms and I am sure that is what I will do in Elite.

multiplayer , the alpha bonus will not matter since i dont plan die alot :D and ppl have huge diff in play time on there hands. its rly a storm in a water bottle as i see it.

I will go MP to begin with and possibly drop down to online single player if I do not like the multiplayer experience.

You can have one, but it'll cost you...

Single player online for me now. Occasional MP with the lad.

I'll mainly do multiplayer, with some solo on the side in case it turns out to be bad.

I'll mainly do solo; with some multiplayer on the side in case it turns out to be good... Actually half kidding; probably Solo online.:)

MP All, May try ironman but wimp out and move to softcore mode upon first death.

I hopefully will be able to talk one of my mates to get the game for some co-op'y gameplay action.

With these different modes (online solo, multiplayer etc) - do you get to use your "most recent" commander stats. So if I play to a certain level solo, will I be able to convert that to to MP without starting again with the base ship, no money etc?

If it's a free choice each time you boot the game up, then I'll be MP unless griefers/exploits take over, and then it'll be solo online.
