"Soft" Restart Considered

I tried what you are doing with the self imposed restart. It didn't work for me. It's very hard to go back to nothing and very hard to wipe all the stats, but it's just a mind game.

I pulled the trigger this week and erased my save. It was very hard and I wavered back and forth several times

Left behind a fully kitted Asp and 20 million.

You don't realize what you have until it's gone. Changed my name, clean start and I'm having a great time.

Forcing myself to stay in Open this time for the risk. Coming in with a lot more experience is a whole new game. I jumped right into smuggling missions. 250k in a couple days 1.5 hour sessions.

Enjoying getting used to the Sidey again ready for CQC.

Looking forward to trying a Diamondback. It's a ship I could never bring myself to step "backward" into, but now it's a step forward!

I think we should all start over from scratch because many people have gained billions of credits due to exploits in the game that have now mainly been fixed.
But the big reset should only happen when FD have figured out a way to stop people using the cheat apps. Everyone would then start on a level playing field including new comers to the game including Mac and xbox players.

I currently have about 200M in assets but would quite happily give them up if everyone started from scratch.
They would lose the majority of their fan base if they did this. Many folks don't play in Open so they don't care what other players have in terms of Credits. If you took someone's 200m when they were saving for a bigger ship and reset it to zero, that would be the nail in the coffin for this game. Horrible idea.

The Eagle lasted two days, although I could have been 'done' after a day. With my 100k from the Sidey it was enough to add a Gimbal Pulse laser and a pair of Gimbal Multicannon, plus move some components to D-class, or C-class. I forgot to add a KWS (doh!), but even so a trip to the local NAV netted ~180k cr in a single outing. I bagged a brace of Wanted T6s for ~20k each, and then got lucky with a Wanted Anaconda. I watched a local security Eagle badger it, but then a security Anaconda turned up and started rocking the Wanted ship, dropping it to 40% hull, at which point I slid into action and opened fire. I was credited with the kill netting ~90k. A few more small kills saw me grab close to 200k in an hour.

I suppose I'm continuing this thread as I'm curious how a new CMDR could get ahead in the game. It may help a new commander get up the learning curve. I wonder really how much 'grind' there is (I've never found any, personally, but I do really enjoy the time I get to play in the game). I'm a reasonable combat pilot against NPCs and know enough about poaching a security ship attack (I was not this capable when I first started as a new CMDR). Even so, I'm surprised just how fast the climb is at this stage. Then again, in bigger more expensive ships I could still only gain BH credits at a similiar pace. I.e. if I was in a Vulture costing 5m rather than an Eagle worth 50k, my bounties don't scale similarly by x100.

The next day I went mission running in the Eagle, once for pirates, and a couple of 'fetch this'/'take that' trading ones. A little bit more NAV action (this time with added KWS!) and in total I made ~420k over two days, so now ~520k in total and have moved on to the Hauler.

There's no real need to go to the Hauler next after the Eagle, and with a few more BH kills I could easily have skipped along to the Cobra. If I was a new commander who hadn't mastered combat then going Sidey-Hauler makes sense to keep trading and exploring for credits with a bigger cargo hold. The Hauler has 18T cargo (I kept the shields). The system I'm in has both Argi and Indi stations so I might just do some SC-trading in-system. I'll aim to add another 100k or so to my credit total, and then trade ships again.

I think I plan to work my way through the roster of ships, working upwards in buying price. So next after the Hauler will be an Adder, which I've read good things about on here. I might even use it to give the 'dreaded' mining another spin (mining is the one aspect of the game I find dull, but it's easy enough to gain advancement by bypassing it).

Finally, I've been playing in Open this whole time, which is my main mode of playing.
