Sol Powerplay Update

Fantastic Job, thank you. Tell the team thanks!

Systems identified by community with known exploits:
  • HIP 97950 (Returned to Delaine Stronghold)
  • Fong Wang (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • V886 Centauri (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • Nuenets (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • Bhil Mina (Returned to Grom Stronghold)
  • Skeggiko O (Returned to Grom Fortified)
  • Alpha Centauri (Returned to Archer Max Stronghold)
  • Sol (Returned to Archer Max Stronghold)
One problem remains, it looks like Lu Yupik's points were returned, but incorrectly credited to Grom not Torval
  • Lu Yupik
Thank you for respecting the work commanders did in defending these systems and honoring what our contributions would have accomplished without the exploit. This means a lot to the Yuri Grom community, (and I'm sure Archer and Delaine though I can't speak for them).

An update on powerplay data, any status or information would be greatly appreciated still.

Thank you, again.
Will Lu Yupik be fixed with the powerplay cycle this week?

Please, any update about settlement data, thoughts, progress. A promise it's being investigated. Don't let this become another escape pod situation where they are disabled for 6 months with zero communication and then disappear. Talk to us.

Yes, an update on data coming back would be good.
According to this it won’t be until after they have stopped it being exploited.

Update for the PC II today.. lots of fixes in there. Haven't been on but i didn't see anything in the fixes that pertained to this issue!
this is the megaships farse all over again.

I might understand disabling direct merit gain for turning in power data if there's an issue. But why disable weekly PP task progression with it? Or if it is really inevitable - remove data recovery tasks from the mission pool. It's a second week in a row i'm getting missions i can not complete. And it's been more than a month already. Seriously?

This nerfing of power data has indeed crippled powerplay. I'm sympathetic about the problem of cheaters and I realize it may not be easy for FDev to fix. But players have a huge investment of time and interest in this, having done the ground engineering and worked to gain competence. And it's one of the most fun aspects of the game. So I do hope there is urgency getting this back on-line. If nothing else, they could just place a cap on how many merits a commander could earn each week in this way -- maybe 200k merits or something like that. I would prefer that not happen, but if that's the only way to get it back up and not allow the cheating, it would be a big help to the game.

Together with the introduction of decay, power data disabling was the final straw that made me quit PP again. Decay and only hauling flyers is what I hated with version 1, and it seems we are back to that square again.

Both of these, I haven't bothered with powerplay for the last two cycles now, Ody data was actually a fun way to earn decent amount of merits. Acquisition and undermining right now are just painful and boring, which I thought was the complete opposite of the FDEV goals with adding decay and trying to make attacking more attractive.

And honestly after weeks "nothing to update" isn't good enough, should have some sort of progress update by now for something that has affected a big chunk of powerplay players.

The current CG is a pretty good example of just how unbalanced reinforcement and undermining are when considering "things players might actually do" as well.
- LYR pledges only (Inara guesses about 1 in 8 pledged players, but regardless of exactly how accurate that is they're going to be a small minority of everyone who could act on PP totals in that system): 18.8 million CP of reinforcement (about 40% of all weekly reinforcement) mostly without trying specifically to do so
- everyone else undermining: 230k CP of undermining, in the busiest system in the game in a record-breaking CG, which wouldn't even be enough yet to knock over a Stronghold at the Decay floor in the complete absence of opposition (though it'll get above the necessary 250k for that by the end of the week, of course)

So per-player, and assuming that LYR and other pledges aren't meaningfully different in how they're contributing to the CG, reinforcement is being over 500 times more effective than undermining. One single (average!) reinforcer can outclass an (average!) max-sized squadron of underminers.

Whether or not Odyssey data is coming back any time soon, but especially if it isn't, just putting "profitable trade", "bounty hunting", "ship scans" and "exploration/exobio" on the "undermining" list would do far more to get some actual undermining going than any messing around on the fringes with merit payouts might.

Not relevant to the topic, but idly clicking on your link From Colonia Region takes me to a map of Cologne, which I learn is one of the five governmental districts of the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Guess the forum structures have changed over the last 12 years and the browser's assuming I'm doing a search. But still a worthwhile click, I didn't know the cathedral had become a World Heritage Site.

Wouldn't it be even better to "flag" settlements you've already visited within let's say a week? I guess it's a lot of data Frontier doesn't want to have to keep track of. But the principle works - as seen with megaship scanning.

Of course there's waaaaay fewer megaships than Odyssey settlements in the game.

If you are going to limit it like that then everything needs the same restriction. Otherwise everyone just goes back to hauling and we have PP1.0 again.

Except that in order to make power data undermining worthwhile, you have to hit a system (thus a settlement) repeatedly. So -- if there is no other fix -- you just cap the merits one can earn from power data and you bring this back to life.

I really don't want any cap placed on power data. But I also don't know what options there are to fix the cheating that was happening at Sol. I'm mainly urging FDev to get power data back into PP, apart from which it is a dull hauling exercise in which it is effectively impossible to undermine.

I almost understood that. :)
