Sol Powerplay Update

Hey folks, we will be returning affected systems to their rightful states during tomorrow's (Thursday 26 June) maintenance. This may extend the maintenance downtime slightly.
I hate this kind of communication. Just throw down a chunk of information and that's it. Is it so difficult to write more than 2 short sentences and write a factual, really informal post about the official status?

Simple question that has been asked many times, not so difficult to answer.
Is anyone in the team currently working on the exploit problem with the settlement data so that it can be reactivated as soon as possible? Or do we have to assume that it will take months again, or possibly just remain deactivated like the escape pods?

It must be clear to FDev that the settlement data is a relevant component of PP2 and is used in many different ways. It is not the case, as is often claimed, that you can simply use one of the other functioning activities. Only someone who runs PP2 as a side activity in ED or is a pure points hunter for merits can say something like that.

the escape pods fiasco all over again. Months and months in the ignore list. I feel Settlement data is in danger of the same thing.

ignore it till they forget about it

Which would suck since it's a key pp bonus for my power, and one of the few UM activities that isn't mind numbing.
aye. Indeed.
one assumes the guys who were doing the exploiting where already banned, I would guess the closest time of a fix coming is next month when the panther clipper is launched.
Like the absolute nearest date would be that., but considering what happened with the escape pods i wouldn't bank on it.

Will data collected prior to it being re-enabled be blocked or be worthless? If data collected prior to re-enablement is allowed, will the new fix ensure that the data has been collected legally and not through the exploit mechanism? Also, is there a likely date for the re-enablement of data downloads (i.e. with the Panther Clipper release, or Vanguards release)? I am okay with someone dropping 1000 data they've worked hard to legitimately collect, but no one can or should have to handle exploited data.

Woohoo! On behalf of all (those terrible) Groms living next door in V886 Centauri, thank you! As a Winters neighbor, I hate them, but fair is fair and their Stronghold system has been restored. You're now free to annoy us some more, Groms!

Really, thank you very much for this. Some Dev was probably sweating bullets getting in there and making this change lol. V886 Centauri, and I'm guessing others as well, have had their Power restored to pre-exploit state. THANK YOU!

Is there a reason why Grom ended up with Torvals system?

It's hard to be definitive going only by Inara's Power history but you might be right.

Was the screenshot on the right from 29 May or thereabouts? Knowing all the other systems being undermined at the same time, that amount of undermining against Torval looks interesting.

Thank you so much for returning those systems to Grom and making it right. Lu Yupik, however, was not a Grom system and should be returned to Torval. Thanks again!

Fantastic Job, thank you. Tell the team thanks!

Systems identified by community with known exploits:
  • HIP 97950 (Returned to Delaine Stronghold)
  • Fong Wang (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • V886 Centauri (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • Nuenets (Returned to Grom Max Stronghold)
  • Bhil Mina (Returned to Grom Stronghold)
  • Skeggiko O (Returned to Grom Fortified)
  • Alpha Centauri (Returned to Archer Max Stronghold)
  • Sol (Returned to Archer Max Stronghold)
One problem remains, it looks like Lu Yupik's points were returned, but incorrectly credited to Grom not Torval
  • Lu Yupik
Thank you for respecting the work commanders did in defending these systems and honoring what our contributions would have accomplished without the exploit. This means a lot to the Yuri Grom community, (and I'm sure Archer and Delaine though I can't speak for them).

An update on powerplay data, any status or information would be greatly appreciated still.

Thank you, again.

How does HIP 97950, a system that is permit-locked to only new players, has been made into a Stronghold? What method a new player has used to successfully earn that huge amount of merits and control points to take it all the way to Stronghold? Worse, how did anyone use an exploit against the previous Stronghold Power?

I'm honestly curious, not implying anything other than it seems unlikely new players would do this organically.

Paul, this is off topic for the thread, but I couldn't figure out how to send you a DM within the forums. If you are able, could you convey a cryptic message to the audio team? If so, tell them...

"I just returned a couple weeks ago after several years away. I have found your warped pictures and flipped what was missing. In exchange for righting them, she whispered to me her cryptic, crackling secret... The gate is, indeed, the key. How to use it is another matter. ALSO, whoever designed this second step, and the first one for that matter, is absolutely sadistic (in a good way)."

If they've been around for a while, they'll probably be pleased to hear that, given no meaningful progress has been made in several years on it. Also, if they have any hints on the tensor at the bottom, I'm all ears. I've spent a silly amount of time trying various transforms on it to make it clearer... That's all :)

Please let me know if they reply!

Some folks probably made alts and did it for the memes.

It started out Powerplay 2 as an Exploited system, because it was in range of HIP 97704 which was one of Delaine's Powerplay 1 systems.

That's a much easier basis for it then to get strengthened to a higher state over time than having to be Acquired at all. I expect there was substantial use of alts involved in practice to get it done much more quickly, but equally the natural state of a busy system is to get reinforced for its existing Power, so it would almost certainly have become a Stronghold eventually anyway.

It looks like "Exploited" means more than one thing if alt accounts are being washed and rinsed for this. Much like Dromi, HIP 97950 should be exempted from the complications of Powerplay, IMHO. It just invites the exploits with alt accounts we're seeing. Pick the system next door and Power it all you want. Leave HIP 97950 for noobs.

I mean... for all the people that are a bit upset about this (and other things)... you have to assume that fdev team are doing their best. I suspect they're probably underresourced compared to the scale of their backlog, plus the codebase must be enormous in size, so making changes to complex systems will take a lot of time, effort, and testing.

The game is amazing and really very complex. Maybe it's worth giving them a bit of a break? It must be soul destroying for them to read some of these sort of threads.
