Solo...legacy vs live

Outside of the obvious as far as differences go...is playing in "solo" with legacy any different than playing with the live version? Currently in legacy at the moment and considering installing the live version as a newbie.

I see the writing on the wall. Legacy might not be there in the long term and I don't want to lose everything I've worked for. Credits are no problem, but going back through the engineers would be an isssue.

Legacy is good for testing the BGS without a lot of players throwing the results off, though. It'll have less value there as FD change things over time.

I'd recommend going live. Solo is still solo there.

Greetings,

The problem with Live and Odyssey is that we became experts moving around in the game with Legacy. Then Frontier changes everything adding more info and graphics but also more menu levels and searching around to figure out how to do the same things we did in Legacy. Reminds me of being left handed then buying a HOTAS and flying with a right handed joystick. It took a few hours but my brain and memory muscle figured it out. Moving up from Legacy took a week and I still don't know everything! Later it was worthwhile having info Legacy doesn't support.

Solo, Open and Group is the same for all versions versus how many live players one will come across. With community goals (which I assume will no longer be in Legacy) Live and Odyssey becomes important when a few players are in Live and many more are in Odyssey. Not having Odyssey to join with others can be frustrating when interesting things are occurring.

Going Live already has a lot of the Odyssey data loading in the game so I would go all the way with Odyssey. Players can even land at Odyssey bases but cannot get out of their ship to look around on foot. Probably Frontier's way of tempting players to purchase Odyssey as well as much less programming to separate the two. Some have reported on the forum Odyssey missions in Live which could not be completed but I cannot confirm this.

Overall like engineering a module to grade 4 which is more than enough versus the minimum improvements with a lot more materials to complete grade 5. If a player's world has to have the best no matter what for all situations then purchase Odyssey. More game updates will be forthcoming and seeing how Frontier does with updates could be for the better or worse. The Thargoid War has already gone on foot with drones so Live won't help much.

As for system requirements my many years older Windows 7, Intel Core i7-3930K CPU, DDR3-1600MHz RAM, a newer Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU runs Odyssey, supporting websites and YouTube videos just fine on an Acer Predator Z35P 35" 3440x1440 21:9 monitor.

Regards

You realize legacy is frozen - no longer being updated in terms of content (other than Background stuff).... right?

Not much point in asking under that light.

Not sure if you're confused or not - but you can solo in Odyssey/Horizons just as easily. (I Do it all the time)

Other than the obvious feature differences, legacy is an older version of the game that will get no updates.

IMO the features already available in live mode make it preferable.

There is no way to know what updates will be added to live mode in the next couple years. But it would suck to dump big hours into legacy mode and not have the possibility of getting access to updates that might be desirable. Its a gamble, not knowing what new features might be added. Maybe Frontier will allow legacy players to migrate their character from Legacy to Live versions. Maybe, I don't know.

That was one of my concerns as well since as a new player putting too many hours in legacy for naught.

Performance is the divider in my opinion. As a VR player (or a player with low spec hardware), Legacy is the best option. I don't need or want more content than Legacy delivers.

Performance or content? That would be the choice in my opinion. Solo is solo either way.

teh omly thing i do not like about teh Odysey changes is it is now basicly impoosable to get andy Nessedary enginering materiels out side of the the bubble. Now that planet hot spots are gone your onlu choice are geting lucky and findint the 1 r to 2 rocks per 10km on the surface or the extremly low quatiliy and rare number of astroids with eninering mats. Getinf materials on Planets is efectivly non exisatnce. especial since old Bios such as Cystalk shards and Brain trees Do not exists that far outside of the bubble.

There are several differences like that, raw mats gathering, planet terrain generation, lighting & the user interface as examples.

However I think for a new player most or all of this is a matter of what you are used to, and preference. I much prefer the Legacy UI to the live one for example, but a lot of the reason why is probably because I used it for thousands of hours. The important factor in all these cases (assuming the stuttery, laggy game performance and poor framerates of Live are not an issue) is what the player is used to.

Raw mats gathering certainly is still a viable activity in Live, but farming a single site over & over by relogging is less productive for those that want to fast-track through the exploration & discovery stages of the game. I get virtually all my raw mats from ring mining btw, relogging at one Crystal Shard site seems like an extremely boring way to spend time to me but I can see why people might want to try it.
