Solo player: How do you join or form a wing?

I only play in SOLO. Now that wings is out I want to play in a wing. How do I do that?

I know how to invite a player to a wing but how do I find players who want to join in wing missions? In most multiplayer games, there's a list of open games you can join or some matchmaking system. Is there an equivalent in ED?

You need to play in open. Best way is to chat to the cmdrs you meet in game. Or use an out of game tool to find somebody. e.g. Inara. Good luck!

First, you have to know the secret code. Then you actually have to have friends. Then you have to ask a question that actually matters. Tough luck on all three, huh?

You need to be in the same game mode as your wing mates - either open, or in the same private group. To send an invite you need to have the players on your friends list. To have friends, you need to go outside and talk to people. Failing that, you could join a player run private group such as Mobius. Unfortunately there is no "looking for group" mode. However, there is a multi crew mode where you can join another player in the cockpit of their ship. If you have fun, you could add them to your friends list and wing with them.

Unfortunately there's no looking for wing feature just yet (it might come in Q4 with Squadrons).

You have to go to Open and look for pals in active systems. Be aware about griefers.

You can't! Solo is as safe as it gets



But on topic... if you wanted a solo experience in a wing... then just build yourself a good GROUP mode squad.... probably the best bet is to start with Mobius. More likely to find PvE oriented squads there.

In open select a cmdr in the comms menu, click on their name, then click on wing request.
If they accept, then you are winged up.
Or text a cmdr, with a wing request.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. I was hoping there was an easy way to quickly join a wing and do some missions. This is like a multiplayer game without a game browser. It makes finding a multiplayer game difficult.

What's the best website or server to find people with wing with?

Here's the thing, if you're playing Solo, solo means alone, by and with yourself. You cannot form a wing or join a wing.
You needn't subject yourself to Open though, you can join a Private Group. https://elitepve.com/ aka Mobius, is one of the largest and is a nice community of folks who do not want to shoot you in the back and steal your stuff. There are some others as well, and you always have the option to create your own and invite only the people you want to join.

In the OP I said I know how to join a wing by contacting player (obviously in OPEN) but don't know how to find players.

But others have said I need to join a private group because there's no wing missing browser in game (which is unfortunate).

Finding other players can be something of a challenge. I played in the Mobius group for almost 3 months before I even saw another player.
Now I have a friends list that requires regular pruning, and sometimes I can't seem to stay away from other people if I try

Sorry commander this feature is only for those that have got gud. You'll need to grind fifty million git gud points in open, these can be obtained by ganking noobs, shieldless explorers, and traders. Once you have these you can go to cmdr Sundae and ask for an git gud module allowing you to request wings.
