Some help with the Rebuy / insurance Issue

The people who get bitten by this seem always to know that they are flying without cover and think they will get away with it.
Not sure that warnings will help.

That's my sense too. It's a risk they're willing to take - until their ship is destroyed, after which "insurance needs a major makeover".

I think it's probably more often a case of not quite allowing the risk to register in the forefront of their decision making process. They'll be aware of how the penalty works and probably paid it a dozen times over. It's that human nature to conveniently not consider the actual size of the risk when there's a golden carrot just in reach.

So I'm sure they're surprised once they realise they've just lost everything. But it's still their own lack of caution and foresight that caused it.

And, I'll say again, these types of brinksmanship players would do the same regardless of a big, red warning sign.

This would at least make the matter stand out a bit more than now :) So for the sake of a tiny graphics and change of colour count me in.

I would also propose a simple message in the Starport Services opening screen to if it sits in there OK - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=92599

The people who throw ships away and then post ragequit threads come in 2 varieties:

1) They don't know about the #4 console so they will never see the warning there about insufficient funds to cover a disaster. (True newbies)

2) They know full well the 346cr in their bank account will not cover the rebuy cost of their Asp but launch anyway.

The little warning in the side console won't stop either of these scenarios. I vote for the giant 90% screen blocking billboard that can not be dismissed. The ship computer could also continuously chant 'WARNING: YOU ARE UNINSURED' every 10 seconds, and make the cockpit lights flash red.

There was also a small point of having a warning flash on your info panel telling you your flying un-insured, that could populate each time you change your frameshift state, when you enter or leave super cruise or hyperjump.

About thing suggested in another thread was an insurance or rebuy lock in the systems panel / functions window (same place as orbital lines off are) this would need default on and would prevent you unobtrusively from spending above your rebut cost and if you take it off, well, there is one less excuse (not that it will stop people, some will turn it off and then come to tell us here on the forum about it when mr Murphy clobbers them)

Why stop with a big red warning?

Ship auto-destruction on launch (If you don't have at least 3 times the insurance) would ensure you get the player's attention. And you'd be sure he would never make that mistake again, as well.

"You ship is not insured. Auto destruction in 3... 2... BOOM"

"Eject", "Eject", "Eject"
