I would very much hope so, thank you!The vaccine will be available only after we're all already dead or immune. Likely the latter!

The conspiracy theorist in me (and common sense) is insisting that this means the government(s) know more than they're letting on.The travel bans are a little odd, we have fairly regular superbug panics every few years but borders slamming shut the way they are currently is unprecedented IIRC.

Wang Guangfa
, head of the department of pulmonary medicine at Peking University First Hospital in Beijing, compared himself and other medical professionals tackling the outbreak to soldiers walking onto .....
In many ways the doctor, who has been widely criticized for his reassuring early statements, has come to symbolize how slowly China recognized the urgency of the outbreak. Dr. Wang, who initially said that the coronavirus could not be spread by human-to-human contact, later contracted it himself, apparently during a visit to Wuhan.
As the virus began to spread through Wuhan in....

In his interview with Jiemian, published on Friday, Dr. Wang said he had misdiagnosed himself as having flu, and that he had waited days before checking himself into a hospital. He said he had since recovered and was discharged on Thursday.
Yes. And there are already people screaming "oppression" at the British Airways HQ, because they were prohibited from going to catch teh virus and democratically spread it around the globe. And people in US who had been in a "voluntary" quarantine after returning from China and shocked and disgusted that they are rounded up and locked up after trying to escape before the mandatory 72 hour period.I've been lunching with some microbiology types <burps> and I have the beer fuelled low down on why borders are shutting for this one and didn't before.
With SARS as an example the Chinese government didn't fess up anything was going on until it had already been spread from China around the globe, with this one as other countries knew before (or at the early stages of) the spread closing borders is actually a useful thing to do. In theory.

I feel bad for having a laugh at this, I really do, but the stupidity of some people is staggering.
Fair enough, I guess.I'm OK with letting people go catch it, just don't let them mingle with the rest of us afterwards. Same as the anti-vaxxers.
I approve of your avatar. The hysteria over this is way overblown

Coronavirus is scary, but the flu is deadlier, more widespread
A new case of coronavirus was confirmed Saturday in Massachusetts. But the flu is more dangerous and much deadlier, infecting millions of Americans.www.usatoday.com
Sorry, I'm not quivering with a mask on...
Let's keep it great. It is just the common flu.
Stock markets will sky rocket soon again, because the right and the good is in control of the Oval Office in the United States of America. Thank god.
Well, it's a bit more serious than a flu, because (from what I understand) it basically attacks and kills the cells on the surface of your respiratory apparatus so although it's not THAT dangerous in itself and your immune system quickly develops antibodies, it leaves you open for some serious bacterial infection afterwards. And THAT is what's killing people. It is just the common flu.

Everyone is afraid of dying. You can try and face your fear, but honestly, I've yet to see bona fide proof that facing any subconscious feeling does any good to anyone. Could it be like Paltrow selling all her "bodily smells" and making people buy it? Well, whatever rocks their boats.I didn't get SARS either, even though I went to see The Lion King in Toronto and sat next to people with their masks on...
If it's your turn, it's your turn
Everybody dies sooner or later
When it's your turn, if your lucky, you get to smile and say goodbye
Remember that the mask does not protect on reception. The hysteria over this is way overblown

I have a pretty positivistic POV on reality. I don't think life as such necessarily has any "meaning", but I do recognize that most living organisms try to stay alive, and in some ways you could call that a goal. If evolution came up with a new species that wasn't afraid of dying, how long do you think it would take before it was wiped from the gene pool?
With this epidemic I'm worried, but I'm not as scared as I have been. That's probably due to lack of information. Always take the blue pill. Stay away from the red ones.
