Some people dont 'get' it.

I didn't have access to my PC most of the weekend so I've been watching a heap of youtube videos on Elite and most of them are really good indeed but one in particular stuck me is odd.

I won't link it because I know naming and shaming is an offence here and I'm not sure if that applies to commanders named in videos but I'd rather be safe than sorry ;)

anyway I watched this guy for half an hour, he very rather erratic and didn't seem to like docking and wasn't a trader and didn't do missions. for all that time all he did was attack anyone and everyone around him. Whether they were wanted or clean, that didn't matter. NPC or Cmdr, that didn't matter.

it was just attack attack attack and move from one target(victim?) to the next as fast as possible. Now I'm probably going to get a heap of flak for this but in my opinion this guy simple doesn't 'get' Elite. as he was treating it as purely a shooter and his attitude and comments seemed to reinforce that.

Do some people need educating and telling 'Hey man, its not just a 'kill everything fast' game? (btw I know some people play the role of pirate in game and I'm fine with that but this wasn't that)

Some people are purely out there to smack you up and show you just how good they are, that they dominate the game and have "won".

After all - they are special :)

it's a sandbox game, so it's fair game i guess
if he interferes with players, we have various possiblities to react

i'd just see him as rowdy in space - so even if he's not roleplaying he kinda is :)

The good thing about this is that they will grow tired of it rather quickly and leave to go harass other players in another game.

Just mindlessly attacking/killing in ED isnt very fun, not in the long run anyway.
But as mentioned already, it IS a sandbox so anything goes!

Hopefully the more complicated the game gets, the less petty confrontations will occur because the effort involved in setting up a ship in order to do such actions would be a waste of time!

That being said, that didn't stop Joker in Batman! ;)

Not really a problem, there also have to be big fat bounty targets for bounty hunters :)
And i guess he was raising his bounty by the minute.

Its something you see in every multiplayer game, simple fact is some people enjoy combat over everything else a game has to offer. I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with that but whatever your opinion you need to accept it because nothing you can do or say will change it.

Personally I like to get immersed in a game and "roleplay" to an extent, and as often as not I avoid combat, this is why I expect i'll mostly be playing offline or solo.

That's the moment when every human player in the system should gang up on him, and teach him the error of his ways.

As long as the fines, bounties, and rep points are appropriately applied to such players, even Elite needs its share of serial killers and maniacs. It'd be nice if they played it up as such too, but some will be the silent killers. Thing is, it's a narrow niche, and doesn't leave room to grow, unless you start over. And there could be other killers who don't like you crossing into their territory, so suddenly you've got killers killing killers.

Open sandbox. Just have to make sure there are consequences for every action, good or bad.

Yes, but even then a lot of this behaviour is just immersion breaking. In reality it wouldn't be common for people to attack others for no reason, especially with the consequences of racking up a bounty or loosing rep, but I expect it will be something common in ED. I've no problem with PvP that has a reason within the context of the game, e.g. piracy, bounty hunting, or mission, but just to attack indiscriminately undermines the game itself.

That said i don't see it as too big an issue as there are alternatives e.g. solo.

when this thing goes on public sale there will be many with that mindset. Its kind of how games are these days. Cant just have it all to ourselves us 1980s wire framers. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out
