Some qualms I have with the emu

I'm quite happy with some of the animals in this new pack. I'd have personally switched out the hyena or caracal for a baboon but you can't always have what you want (I'm willing to say I will die on the hill that the blue wildebeest is nice to have).

However, I do have some qualms with the model and texturing of the emu

First off, the fur shader pokes out in an odd way, which clashes with how the feathers flow. I not sure why Frontier can't make it so that the shader can flow in different ways. This is a problem with many species but it's especially apparent here.

Especially with how the hair on the neck and head is combed, I don't understand why this could not have been applied across the body to give a more authentic look to the feathers. As a side note, I feel the length of the hairs going up the neck and especially around the head can be shortened a bit.

Finally, the texturing on the wing is off. The feathers should flow with the rest of the body, making them practically invisible when seen from a profile. These wings stick out far too much from the rest of the body

Finally, I'd like to add a tiny addendum for the blue wildebeest. I'm very happy that this species is finally in-game (I'd have preferred it to be in the base game but whatever). While I know that many specimens have the erect mane as seen here, I would have liked some to have the mane that droops to the side, an iconic feature for this species. Perhaps down the road, model variants can be added for different hair patterns for wildebeest and other species

I agree with the points about the emu, especially the head feathers.

I’m willing to reserve judgement but it looks a bit off to me. As it’s one of my most anticipated animals I just hope it will be spot on.

Oh dear, this is actually a good point once explained. I think I'm dizzy after looking at the second Emu's body now. Hopefully in motion it won't be so apparent.

I can't describe how much do I love the addition of Emu.
While i don't really care about many of the problems, I think the wings could be actually removed. Emus never expose them due to their thick layer of flightless feathers.

@HeatherG :
I am sorry, but I really do not understand why you have closed the Thread "some recommendations on the Emu"? While this actual Thread here is about the appearance of the Emu, the other thread wants to show possible improvements with the actual Emu mechanics. In my opinion both Threads are about different things even when it is the same species.
And I would like to agree with @Chuditch . The Emu should be walkthrough, he should be enriched by Kangaroo species and he should have a temperate tag

Since the emu thread has moved over here
Remember everyone originally the fallow deer wasn’t a walkthrough, then it became so
Plus other animals did get tags
I don’t recall if any animals got species enrichment after their release or not
What I’m saying is I think the devs will spice up the emu in the next minor patch
I also hope they can allow more armadillos per habitat like they did with the alligators

As my thread was also closed…

Having seen a few videos I am still unhappy with the feathers on the head and neck. It’s ok for an occasional individual but it doesn’t look right for that to be the standard appearance of the bird.

Now that theres more pictures and video i gotta join the club.. i think the headshape is off. Its either the way the lower jaw is angled or the length of the beak is too short. That is actually my biggest pointer. Also not happy with the texture on the body. And the uh.. Hairdo. Yeah. Yeah im a bit disappointed with it. Just too many things for me to be happy about this bird.

It is a bit funny that llama and capybara or capybara and Galapagos Tortoise enrich each other but not Emu and Wallabies, so common mix in zoos.
You’re so right, especially because they’re in the same pack! Personally, I think both emus and the wallabies should share cohabitation enrichment with the kangaroos and koalas - especially because you can see their ranges overlap on the zoopedia map, which isn’t the case with every African species that cohabitates.
I also 100% agree with the armadillo being updates to prefer larger groups - especially because it’s so common to see them in groups of like 20, in Florida and other places.
