"Something for the ladies" - Feminine versions of rank titles please?

Okay, then. It's not gender-discrimination, it's just a different kind of feminism. An alternative equality. Let's have a look at that, shall we?

Senate Declares Arissa Lavigny-Duval Emperor

Standing on the steps of the Senate building, Chancellor Anders Blaine announced the Senate's decision on the succession. In a historic selection, and as a result of a clear majority vote, Arissa Lavigny-Duval will be the next ruler of the Empire. She will be the first female leader of the Empire since Marlin Duval founded the original colony on Achenar in the 23rd Century, although she will carry the title 'Emperor' rather than 'Empress'. Such an appointment would have been impossible prior to the reign of Hengist Duval due to an ancient decree that all Imperial rulers be male, but a ruling passed by the late Emperor early in his reign did away with this generations-old tradition.

The news has been almost universally celebrated, and even Princess Aisling Duval offered her support for the appointment. The celebrations are likely to continue until the coronation ceremony in a week's time.

Not everyone agrees with the Senate's decision, however. In a statement, Emperor's Dawn declared the selection of Arissa Lavigny-Duval "a desecration of the traditions of the Empire". The organisation has vowed not to allow the ceremony to happen.

This is not my interpretation of anything, this is in the game.

This is a thousand-year-old empire that has - in all that time - chosen a grand total of ONE woman to lead them...

... and the only reason she got the job was because the last emperor didn't leave a male heir.

They care about law. They care about tradition. They don't care about feminism.

This is not a culture that has an alternative anything.

The Empire may have celebrated Arissa's ascension, but this is still very clearly a culture that doesn't like women anywhere near as much as it likes men.

I'm honestly sorry if that bursts anyone's headcanon, but that's the way it is.

It's in the game.

Feminism, as a concept, is not just about ensuring women have the same rights as men. It's about ensuring their needs as women are respected as well. The idea of things like maternity leave, segregated facilities such as changing rooms and lavatories... these all owe their continued existence to that principle.

Any social or legal code that hurts one class of people far more than others is discriminatory and abusive, even if it is theoretically applicable to everyone. Genuine equality gives everyone the right to identify themselves by whatever gender-pronoun they wish, or none at all, if they feel like it - it doesn't strip away anyone's freedom to do so.

Barring a woman's right to use a gendered term (or not, if they so wish) can never be feminism.

I seem to remember a past iteration of this discussion where there were female members asking for these not to be introduced, but rather have gender-neutral names. I think so many female gamers have had bad experiences from sad gits after their gender had become "outed" so to speak.

That's a good point. I choose to use a gendered name, so this would be slightly irrelevant for me anyway, but female players should be able to build female avatars without necessarily having to draw baggro (boy aggro). Putting aside those of us who use male avatars, I don't know a single female online gamer who hasn't had this problem at least once.

(In before blah blah attack helicopter again. 2016 called and it wants its boring memes back now.)
