Yeah, you might well be able to get there before me, since you can fly across the NS field, while I have to follow the edges. :)

It's a peduncle tree, and that region is absolutely chock full of them. You can see why here.
It boggles the mind why someone from Frontier would post this. Perhaps an intern made a mistake, and thought these were new or interesting?
Unless it's a new kind, in which case scratch what I just said.

But honestly, the time would be better spent fixing the Codex bugs and adding Rumoured entries for stuff we haven't found yet, than posting pictures on social media.

We should've already known better not to go on any chases by now, as there's only sadness and disappointment in the end. But we still do...just look at all those poor folk in Raxxla hunting thread. Cheese fell off their cracker a while ago, looking for something that doesn't even exist :)

Oh no no, hatred is a big word. I don't hate it, just mildly despise it.
Now. Imagine my landlord decided to increase my rent. However, instead of telling me about it he just rented a billboard in the next city and wrote that information on it. Then, a month later came to me demanding higher pay. Since information had been there...on his "official channel".

You know, just maybe the reason they're posting this stuff on Twitter/Facebook but not on Galnet/Forums is because existing players aren't the audience for it?

Yeah, we've all seen (pictures of) a Peduncle Tree before and it's not new for us, but it might be the sort of thing which gets other people interested in playing, or makes someone who did a bit of exploring three years ago remember the game and come back.

Impossible. There is no 'outside' or 'other people'. Elite Dangerous exists in a closed spacetime bubble and its just us.

I'd agree, but then a location 36k out from any starter location sounds like a recipe for disappointment.

A good point, but if they want to do that, there are plenty of better NSPs much closer to the bubble. (To say nothing of better things. Like Sagittarius A*, or Colonia.)
About the only thing going for peduncle trees is that they are so common in Dryman's Point and Sagittarius-Carina Arm that it's trivial to find your own.
