Sometimes... 😳

Lately, the games been pretty good, no major issues with it, but some days this game really messes with you.

I decided to join up the community goal and make some cash. Took the T-10 out and mined about 400 tons in just under 2 hours.

Transferred the platinum to the Cutter for the transit to the community goal site and off I went.

It took about 7 jumps to get get there and over the last 4 I picked a pirate in a T-10. He never could get it in position to interdict me by the time I jumped out... Kinda amusing watching it try.

When I arrived in system I couldn't remember where the location of the mega ship was and guess who shows up and interdicts me... I fought him for a while and finally got tired of chaff spam and annoying SLF and left him in the dust as it was getting late.

I still couldn't find the location for mega ship but I knew near a plant so I headed over the the first planet and found it.

I dropped in, got permission and landed on the pad... Except I didn't. No matter what I did, it would not lock down. I slammed it on the, touched it lightly, shifted left, right forward and back, rotated it 180, raised and lowered the gear.

Finally I left the pad, canceled my clearance, requested docking and repeated the above gyrations to no avail.

Twice...

Now, throughly frustrated, I logged to the main menu, logged back in and repeated the previous... No joy. I logged the desktop, relogged and repeated the previous and again, NO JOY!

Now I decided that I would buy a docking computer... But, there are no large pad in the system!

So I checked the galmap, a high tech system in a good state with a high population is close by, I'll go there. Being super frustrated and hating the flight characteristics of the Cutter, I get stuck in the entry port so bad I had to relog or loose 400 tons of platinum.

Finally dock, pay my fines, and... No docking computer! I'm now beyond frustrated and trying to decide which of my whiskeys will calm me down the fastest, I pull up Inara and see there's a docking computer in the system... 400k+ away! Nope, not going to do that, I might just run out of bourbon by the time I get there!

I finally locate and install a docking computer, make it back to the megaship and dock without issues. I sell the platinum for around 180 million and...

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU MADE ELITE TRADING II!

Just another day in Elite.

We all know why we're here. At some point we're in a ship we enjoy flying, everything works and the thing that we set out to do gets done.

It does happen. Occasionally.
It's been that way lately, no real complaints, happy with the game for the most part, but last night... I could/should have just logged out and usually do if I get frustrated.

But I had a terminal case of get-it-done-itis... I just want to finish this tonight!

I just hope the Panther Clipper doesn't have a slip-slidey flight profile. I am really contemplating not buying one for Arx because I don't believe I will like the handling of it. If it's as bad as the Cutter I won't pay money for it. I can get all the free abuse I can handle from other sources, no need to buy frustration...

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Loved the way the Mandalay looked when it was revealed so I bought one for Arx to replace my daily-driver Phantom.
The result, unfortunately, was a bit underwhelming.
On paper, the Mandalay is better than my Phantom in every way; it's faster, has more range, higher DPS and more shield/armor.
In use, though, it just didn't seem as... robust.
It seemed to take longer to make stuff explode and each engagement took a lot out of the shield.
Was actually thinking about getting rid of the Mandy' and swapping back to my Phantom.
Ended-up twiddling a few things (fitted a better PD, redid the engineering on some weapons which, in turn, allowed me to fit a GSRP and some better SBs) and the results were superb.
Mandy' now feels very solid, explodes stuff quickly and doesn't take as much damage.
Yay! \o/

The rollercoaster of emotions that is ED.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

The rollercoaster of emotions that is ED.
No doubt.

I love the Mandy, it did take some work to get her load out right, but for me she replaced the Phantom so it was a step up.

The biggest issue with the mandy for me is that I tend to hug the bottom of the docking port...

I can sympathize. Sometimes I too think the game is just trying everything it can in order to ruin my day. Annoying pirates chain interdicting, then jumping into the station approach directly in front of my nose, causing me to ram them, gaining a fine or even a bounty (if the poor was small enough for my Cutter to obliterate it), station opening fire, no suitable IF nearby, aggressive cops, and so on, and so forth.
And of course the usual "no, you can't have that last item in your grind just yet". Like, when your task is to find 10 power-play data of a specific type, you will quickly find 9 of them, but the last one is nowhere to be found, no matter what you do. I swear they've copied the fear-sniffing, jam-producing algorithm of printers and polished it to perfection.

Okay full stop, the handling characteristics of the Cutter have nothing to do with your story. Unless you were seriously trying to pull off an at-speed powered landing for some reason instead of simply hovering into position and then down-thrusting...

You must have missed the part where I got stuck in the docking port... That was because the dang ship was sliding all over the place, fish-tailing like like a greased pig on plastic. I hate the Cutter, if you just over do it just a touch it's off to the races. It's a real pain to fly.

Nice read, and I hear ya, lol. Do your cutter's thrusters have the experimental mass manager on them? Those can help with the heavier ships.
No... Looks like I need to make a trip to grannies...

Was FA Off or something? The Cutter doesn't slide all over if you're using thrusters, which you should be using to land it. All this Cutter bashing.... a poor craftsman blames his tools 😋

FWIW, my Cutter has 8D thrusters (DD5 & Drag) rather than 8As and the steering isn't terrible.

It's only something like 20m/s slower than 8As (35m/s with boost) but the ship's nearly 200t lighter as a result of being able to run a 7A PP and 6A PD (100t from the thrusters, 40t from the PP and 40t from the PD).
Maybe the slight reduction in thrust, along with the reduction in mass, helps keep things under control a bit?

I have flown it with G5 8A thrusters so I know how they go and, honestly, I didn't really miss them when I swapped to the 8Ds.

Thanks,, I'll look into it.
