Sorry Yamiks and all naysayers, but Odyssey is BETTER than Horizons

Now that bugs have been fixed, and even if everything is not perfect yet, I can say it with some confidence. Some stuff dosen't work, yep, SRV still lags, yep, but IU is actually better once that you've figured it out, the game has more to offer, and perf-wise, well, it will get better (it already had) but if you haven't upgraded you PC since Horizons in 2015 and you expect to play Odyssey 60FPS in 2021, I mean, wake up... Also, myself I had a lot of reservations against the game at first, before realizing that actually what I had in mind existed, simply iI haden't noticed (like the toggle-switch in equipment IU to avoid selling your old equipment). The more I play it, the more I realize that most issues we had simply don't exist, but people (Latvia anyone?) don't want to plainly admit that.

This has to be sarcasm, right?

Patch 5 turned out to be soooooo good that FDEV was forced to delay the console release to fix the PC release. Then, a day after that announcement, you say "hear hear" to a post containing...

I mean what can someone post in response to such behavior that won't get that post deleted? ...or worse. SMGDH

Honestly, my performance is pretty much on-par with horizons (albeit with the graphics turned down a touch, which I expected to have to do anyway). The game is more stable that Horizons ever was, for me. Most of the bugs (at least for me) seem to be non-existant. I haven't experienced anything "game-breaking". I like the new UI. I like the new Planets/Terrain (apart from terrain texture LODs not changing when I think they should). I like the atmospheres. The changing suits thing has grown on me. I'm having fun with the missions (more variety would be nice). Space actually being black is a massive improvement from Horizons. The new Hyperspace jump animation is loads better than Horizons. The new Supercruise tail is better than Horizons....
What do you want me to say? It's all broken and unplayable? Cos that would be a lie...

Cant agree with OP on several fronts. First off, the game performs reasonably well for me at this point. That is not my issue.

1) People do want ship interiors
2) Exobiologist stuff is a pointless hamster wheel
3) This is a game about flying ships given an expansion that did little to enhance that experience while attaching an FPS game onto it some people may like but no one asked for.
4) Engineering grind for FPS stuff is worse then the one for ships
5) Planet tech changes reglassed all landable planets removing features that we have literally spent years discovering and cataloging. Visit Mt Neverest for an example.
6) UI changes, even dressed up with updates require more interactions in some places to accomplish the same tasks as the old one.
7) No new ships in a game about flying ships
8) One of the best VR games in existence did not get full VR for this expansion
9) Much of the latest communication has been that this is what it is with no real commitment to ship interiors, anything new for space stuff or VR for FPS.

Do not get me wrong, I love Elite, but this expansion was planned out and implemented by the "metrics" guys in Frontiers decision making hierarchy, not the guys more in tune with what would be fun to do. Its all about giving us hamster wheels instead of more of the things we liked doing (or even preserving some of the things we liked doing). I am going to see how it all pans out and if Odyssey is more enjoyable for you, I wish you nothing but fun. But, just because its enjoyable for OP, does not mean we all will feel that way if we just stop naysaying.

most issues we had simply don't exist

EDIT: This isn't directed at you specifically but; I've noticed an interesting similarity among the "Odyssey's great" posts. They all contain many "but" and "except" qualifiers. Now, multiply that 100 fold. Do you see a problem?

Both the OP and the hear hear are valid only for the brief moment between reading the patch notes and actually starting the game and playing it.
For example, while Updated 5 fixed some bugs, introduced new game breaking bugs like:
  • restore missions that had fires being unfinishable since putting off fires was not registered towards the mission objectives
  • retrieve missions missing POIs
  • really bad stuttering in or around certain settlements

Post Update 5 there was a server side fix that fixed only the restore missions...

Edit I would expect Update 6 to correct some bugs, hopefully including the 2 mentioned above, but i wonder what other bugs it will introduce or regress

Yes, he does. Just wish that one day...Yamiks and the rest of the community could align...Again, what Yamiks is saying isn't really wrong...I'd say that Yamiks' streams are more accurate than any other, w/re: game quality. I just wish there was more compassion and patience regarding trying to solve the issues that are brought up.
I have no idea how anybody can listen to Yamiks for more than three seconds.
Once the performance is fixed Odyssey is pretty much the best expansion the game has seen yet. But even then it's still missing VR support and terrain repetition is annoying. Is it worth the money though? Compared to the original Horizons release it offers more and better gameplay in my opinion. The big question is, what happens after Odyssey is (mostly) fixed? Will they add more content via free DLC? Like boarding derelict ships, ship interiors, thargoid FPS combat, new missions / ships / SRVs. If that happens the expansion could still become a success. If they abandon it like so many other features before people are probably not going to like it just because some bugs and performance is fixed. And if they had such plans it would probably be better to announce it now rather than later.
I basically agree. The settlement stuff is the best thing they've added to the game since launch for me. But I haven't had crippling frame rate issues.

I think people are a bit optimistic about "what happens next". I'm assuming Odyssey has to be a pretty huge success to justify doing any more major things for ED. With the current reactions I'm guessing they'd just be adding pretty minor things from now on.

How bad was Horizons for you? Other than a very occasional disconnect I can't say I had issues with Horizons (I don't multi-crew).
Most of the bugs (at least for me) seem to be non-existant.
Fdev have acknowledged a large number of bugs.
I like the new Planets/Terrain (apart from terrain texture LODs not changing when I think they should). I like the atmospheres.
Low expectations - again Fdev have acknowledged serious issues with planet tech.
I'm having fun with the missions (more variety would be nice).

I'm not suggesting you aren't pleased with Odyssey, just that some of your statements are 'good - but' 🤷‍♂️.

Had a great meal out, the service was brilliant but the food was late. The building has been condemned, but I didn't notice any problems. The quality of the food was good (apart from the steak was all gristle but I expected it to be a little worse than the other place). I loved the menu, but there was a lack of choice. So all in all I recommend it for a great night out....

I see your title is enticing, yet the thought given to your text is incredibly limited.

Therefore, I give this a 3 of 10 on the Sunday trolling scale, and if I had the mad max "bait" meme to hand, I would post it.

I should mention though that you did get one of your three points for mentioning everyone's Latvian Marmite Man, as that is a surefire way to draw people into your thread set up purely to bait those wanting to have stupid arguments.

As yet I haven't clicked on you, but I imagine we might be lucky to find you are a new user to the forums, despite knowing how to start a stupid argument.

Grade:-
3/10. Must try harder to look less obvious when trying to start a forum hullabaloo. You nearly got an extra point for giving me the chance to use hullabaloo twice, but nuts to that.
Brother Bottom... you forgot to deduct a point for the lack of cat meme....

EDO isn't great. It has a lot of fun features. I can talk for a long time about what it does right and the list of what it does wrong is somewhat reducing (I say somewhat because update 5 seems to have borked missions onto a state that's worse than any previous state).

EDO is very good though. Sadly, the qualities that make it so are heavily buried. In a perfect, unrealistic future where all bugs are gone and a slightly more realistic future where performance matches the specs, I'd say the list of things people would have left to whine about would be summed up by people who think pew pew is bad. And no ship interiors.

I see you're the residential clown. Keep at it, I do enjoy a laugh.

It seems you're the resident sense of humour-amputee?
(It's resident, not residential - that would be a clown in a house).

Anyway, I don't know why you decided to pick on a post from ages ago that is blatantly a bit of fun, to show the thread how brilliant you are at impressions of the queen - "we are not amused..."

But you do you mate, I've no real interest in you anyway, and to be fair you have hardly added anything useful to the thread!

Have fun being fun ;)

Brother Bottom... you forgot to deduct a point for the lack of cat meme....

Good point sir, but I think I have to behave, be serious, and not make jokes - certainly for a short while anyhow...?!

It did need one though, I agree ;)
