This is entirely normal.

Standard situation of someone who was just following exploits around finding the rest of the game is ok. Still grinding though!

I do not see any nerf to this comming. It is a well known Federation rank system. It used to offer 60-100 million credit rewards for haling Biowaste and Hydrogen Fuel 300+ LYs back to the bubble back in the days. That stuff got nerfed though, but the ranking with Fed... nopes. And, it was as good back then as it is now.

I can now imagine the key tapping pause as decisions are made...

I was there all the January month.( rank federation also)

The data mission is really not worth the effort. You barely increase your federal rank.

My advice was:

Ceos > sothis. Take mission to sothis mining only. Just for fill up.

Sothis mining > Ceos.
With a trade python. You can take haul mission to Ceos for a total of 10 M.(=2 missions)
Take them. Your rank will increase 1 or 2 % with those 2 missions. Then fill up with data.( you can increase more 1% if lucky)

The credit will serve you for charity mission. Do them as must as you can. They increase your rank very well.

There is definitely better spot, but sothis - Ceos give you income and increase your elite rank also. These was perfect in my case. I recommend this place if you are not multi billion credit owner.

Lots of Boom and strategic data missions back and forth.
I've tried other places for this but the low station count and short ls from entry point of the ones in these 2 systems can't be beat for grinding rank anyway.

I timed round trip:
Docked at Ceos grabbed 20 missions including 2 cargo ones along with boom data. Only flipped board one time to get to 20.
Landed at Sothis -Newholm station, turned in missions and grabbed more data missions. On to Sothis Mining - repeat. No board flip was needed after scooping up data booms at these 2 stations. Back to Ceos and turned in missions.
Took me 23 minutes round trip to do 40 Fed. missions. Best time-wise I've found yet.
I suppose you could board flip and only take missions to Sothis Mining and maybe shave a few mins? I'll try that tonight.

There are numerous other places for swapping data missions but the ls from star or time spent board flipping to reach 20 missions always had me well over 45 minutes round trip.

I'm not allied yet so can't speak to the profit side much yet. Last round I did grab the Sothis sirius passenger missions just to see what they were about. they do pay decent 120k-250k each but they are a time suck if your goal is to crank out rank. If you do passengers on this remember to drop from supercruise to scan the beacon! I sat like a moron for a few mins. wondering why the mission notice didn't go off until it hit me you cannot scan the beacon in supercruise LOL!

Data missions have never paid much so I wouldn't expect that to be a good source of income though. I did a lot of my fed/empire ranking using data missions for my 1st account, which took about 4 days for fed (rear admiral) and a little over a week for empire (duke). If you don't have the cash for charity missions (about 550mil needed for each super power but can be done in an afternoon

Thanks for the tips. I'm only at 380mil credits (I have 4 diff. A-class mod ships though in storage) so sounds like I should refit my Python to be a hauler.

It's unlikely to be an intentional nerf, but there's a change to how data missions work in Beyond that may well make it slightly less good - or at least require more care in how it's used for Federal ranking. (They give negative rep and inf to the destination faction)

This not limited to Ceos/Sothis, a lot of system work that way in boom state.

I did the last stint of my rank grind from Post Commander to Rear Admiral in an evening session in the Kamahu system.

There are so many data delivery missions that with just one mode switch I had more missions available than I was actually allowed to take.
Even without mode switching it would have been pretty fast, netting you 10-20 mission per stint.
Tons of donation missions too.

The Data Missions have always been there. As it is for Imperial rank-up at Wu-Guinagi and Hip 10716.

Awesome so you can still make use of cargo runs as well as data to help level-up, and be worth it.

I'm Imperial, so only needed a certain rank with the feds for reasons.

But as you said, might not gain traction with the rest of the player base, like that time someone posted an Empire rank grind place better than the more popular one, but got away with it. Speaking of which, need to go there at some point to get to Duke....
