Sound cuts off at start up?

I just reinstalled ED after not having played it since release. I was thinking about purchasing Horizons and wanted to get back into it, but after today’s issue with the sound I’m having second thoughts.

im using Steam and upon startup with the ED logo screen I hear the music for a few seconds and then it just cuts out. I then get to the main screen With no sound as well as in game no sound. I then try and troubleshoot the issue through the audio options but nothing is working.
All other games YouTube, YouTube tv audio works just fine.

is this a known issue? A fix? Thanks for any help. If I can’t troubleshoot this then I’m not going to bother with horizons.

I am also having issues with BT. My hearing aid receiver works with everything else until the game starts - then it shuts the audio off.
I'm thinking it has to be something in the BT interfaces with the game that is disabling this device.

I guess so. Stinks that this is the only game/software I have that my Bluetooth speaker doesn’t work.

also really stinks for you with your hearing aids!!! So hope they troubleshoot this issue for your disability!

I can confirm I had issues with BT as well (Soundcore NC headset) - few seconds into the game and all sound muted. Works with everything else except ED. Switching back to a different audio output than BT and it works again.

Confirmed again with my Bluetooth headset. So it's still an issue. All other games and software have no issue, but this game the sound starts great than about 5-10 seconds after the starting music plays, it cuts out completely for the entire rest of the game. I guess I'm switching back to my speakers, for now. Sound is fine other than on BT.

got exactly the same issue...sounds is fine for about 5 seconds then fades out. If I click on a menu option, it comes back...but only for 5 seconds! I've unistalled ED, Steam VR, Steam...hunting down the problem but with no luck. I've got an Artics Pro Wireless headset and playing with Voice Attacked...so ED is dead in the water until this is sorted? Any suggestions welcome!!!!!

OK. It explains it as the only sound option I have is from my bluetooth headset so cannot actually play the game unless it is fixed. Might have to just get a refund then.

The Arctics Pro Wireless doesn't use Bluetooth for gaming though does it? It connects to it's base station via a 2.4G wireless connection. It uses Bluetooth for connecting to mobile devices.

Bluetooth headsets have this issue on windows with ED
Simply because BT headsets have 2 profiles:
  • headphones - with music quality audio (no mic, hi quality audio)
  • headsets - voice audio quality (mic on, lower quality suitable for voice conferencing)

When you start ED it will try to activate the mic (because ED has voice coms) and that will switch the BT headset from music profile to voice profile
And you will lose Audio, because your Windows will still have the music profile activated as default output on your audio mixer.

Now you have several options:

1) click on the speaker in the taskbar, the volume will open and above it you will have the name of your audio device and a ^
Click that ^ and you can switch the audio device and chose the headset mode for your BT device. You will have sounds, but lower quality

2) Or you can disable the mic on your BT device and use the laptop mic (or PC external mic or No mic at all) - and have ingame sounds at high quality.

3) Or you can try to disable the mic and voice feature of ED

4) or you can use a non-BT headset (which will not have these issues) - that is wired or wireless - as in wireless on proprietary 2.4GHz usb dongle and not by using BT

Or

5) Get a bluetooth transmitter that plugs in to the computers headphone jack or speaker output and pair the headphones with that instead of the computer's BT.

It would be great too be able to use the built-in mic on the PC while using BT headphones for sound. Can't see how to configure that.
