Space Trucking

That's good, Because rumor from the back of the bar is Ezra Point needs to deliver 631 Tons of Agronomic Treatment to Baker Platform.

Extremely refreshing to see someone revelling in one of the roles in the game that many shun for easy wealth (which is far too easy to obtain), and for paper promotions...

Anyway we have a mission for you - Pick up 1,000,000 units of salt from the FDev forums (left here by some very vocal members deposited here after some mining problems) and dump it in a black hole somewhere.. Are you up for that :)

Not trying to hijack the thread, but kinda related. Looking to build in-bubble PVE medium hauler that can defend itself. Yeah, I have Python with 190+ cargo, but I've been drooling over Dropship for a while now, and that's what I intend to make with it:
Manly concerend about weapon choice. Beam goes there no matter what, because it's spare just rotting in my storage, but I don't have any cannon boats. Would it be efficient? Damage looks nice, maybe different engineering would be better? Any cannon aficionado tips are welcome.
Plus if you have any advices on build overall, I'm open to it. Small note that I wanted to maximize cargo hold as much as I could, obviously.

No fuel scoop?

Nope. As in Bubble, I'll be moving from station to station, plus medium pad. I have quite a few ships with no scoops and doing fine. As far as I know, FDS fuel tank isn't that bad, eh?
16T fuel, at 28.84LY per jump, your going to get about 3.6 jumps out of her.
The build looks fine for simple PVE ships that may find your cargo tasty.
Regards to the canons, you might try dispersal field on one of them, works kinda like chaff. In addition perhaps a multi-cannon with corrosive shell for that +25% damage bonus from all sources.

Some of the most enjoyable hours I spent in this game was in my first real ship, an E-rated type 6 hauling around 50 tons from port to port. Good times.

Idk why but I just love being a space trucker in elite. Combats cool, but nothing beats transporting/smuggling. Something about the relaxing mundaneness of it. Idk maybe it’s just me, but I love it, practically the only thing I do.

Definitely about relaxation for me, I've always seen it as bubble tourism, getting to see interesting ports (as long as you don't A-B-A all day) Have come across and recorded some stunning surface port locations. My most recent one was out in Colonia (Arcanonn’s) Legacy, a pitch black, high grav, ultra long orbital cruise ride down into a crater 20+km deep, truly one of the most surreal VR experiences I've ever had.

Most of Colonia's ports are a sight to behold - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aXPVsYBYjhMLPp4zu9RJfKKoxZFgP9Iz/view

'Bridger town' in the bubble is also one of my old trucking favourites, the network of ports in the area are very lucrative too.

This is 4 years ago, so before the graphics/terrain updates.

Here is my main space trucker, a python. She will do 30 LY fully laden (256 tons) and able to take out most NPC pirates, but not usually a wing. Even if there is a wing, there is enough integrity to escape. If I find a really tasty route, I will pull out my Cutter. It is a top of the line vessel, NPC gank proof. It will do 22 LY fully laden and can rake in over 17 mil per run (non-tritium). Have no fears in that Cutter, it will chew apart a wing of pirates. All turret, fire at will. I will sometimes use a shieldless 786 ton variant of the Cutter if I find an extremely juicy route where I don't feel I have to worry so much about a few chips taken off the hull due to some pesky pirate. Even then, I usually stand and fight. I replace the hull with reactive heavy duty deep plating, and the two military slots will have HRP with same mods. Integrity is high enough that after a master pirate, it'll be at approx 85%.

My Cutter and Python are both armed traders with heavy shields. I'll sacrifice some cargo space for that. Credit balance is sufficient that I don't feel the need to optimize capacity.

Both have a full weapons complement and fight, the Cutter can take on anything. The Python can take an NPC Anaconda, no issues. Both have speed to run if necessary.

To the question of FDS or Python for trading, a Python.

Nice one, enjoy the game for what it is and what you find fun.
Ignore these forums for the best part, it is just fully of cry babies who had their easy pickings removed by FDev.

That would be more palatable if it didn't come from a player who bought their carrier with said ' easy picking' and is now happy others can't have a go. 💩
