Speculation on the new era

We all be playing Star citizen by then anyway.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH !!!! < deep breath > HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

Golden ticket holder, T-shirt, ID card... I don't even look at those emails begging me to buy another ship I can't fly in a real game.. or the multi-gig DL's for the 'update'.

As 'broken' as people like to suggest ED is ( and it does have some faults ), it is NO-WHERE near the bowel clenching money pit that SC has become. Smart money says that it won't even make it past Alpha.

Some other stuff I'm hoping to come along with it:

Just that much? Oh alright, let's add my shopping list:
  • Expanded mission system, where factions adjust mission risk/reward (and flavour text) depending on how well/badly they are doing in any system conflict.
  • Harsher crime and punishment system along with a criminal economy model
  • Ship to ship trading
  • Believable ambient traffic behaviour
  • Motive based AI behaviour
  • Interactive NPC comms and reactions that vary on rep and player actions
  • Voxel system for gas giant & stellar atmospheres and asteroids, allowing exploration of these as low density megastructures and exploitation for materials, minerals and rare phenomena
  • NPC wingmen and escort missions
  • Inter-system short term NPC persistence for eg bounty hunters, assassins and auditors.

I think that should take care of any unused capacity at FD, don't you?

ED is a much less complicated game to what SC plans to become (what it already is), and ED has had its fair share of bugs, exploits and game breaking issues.

Now imagine a finished and launched Star Citizen. I figure that game will be a glitch, exploit nightmare once released and it will cause CIG no end of sleepless nights trying to fix and patch the game once the public gets their hands on it. Players are fantastic at looking for loopholes and ways to get ahead in a game to the point that it can ruin a game. SC will be an exploiters paradice and frustration will fall like snow.

Nothing short of the Kwisatz Haderach will save Star Citizen now. FD need to look at other games and the smaller scale- Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is a fine example.

My guess is the New Era will be a core rewrite of the game's code, allowing the following:

  • First person mode, Space Legs, Elite Feet, it has many names.
  • SRV's are now multiplayer and multicrew compatible. Might even get a new SRV with multiple seats in it.
  • Player surface base building will be a feature, think small outposts like Dav's Hope. The store has cosmetics to buy for them too.
  • Much improved in game lighting system.
  • Coriolis stations, outposts, and surface bases now have areas to walk around and such.
  • Salvaging space wrecks will be enhanced to include EVA salvaging of scrap and components.
  • Ships now have interiors, and the ARX store now has decorations to buy for inside your ship!
  • Thargoid pilots and soldiers will be implemented, and players can invade hives to have first person combat with them.
In short, Space Legs and Base Building, plus a bunch of stuff as secondary content along with them.

Some other stuff I'm hoping to come along with it:

  • Planet caves and sinkholes (spelunking!!).
  • Comets.
  • Ice planet revamp.
  • Flying in gas giant atmospheres.
But hey, thats just my hunch.
not sure i have your optimism that we will get all that (including your other hopes) but if we do that would be great.

I am not going to predict anything... but i so hope we get npc crew and wingmates, as well as more persistance for things i find and for npcs i meet. (even if they are stored locally on my machine so are only persistant for my instance and not persistant for everyone.)

I bet they’re working on first person mode (AKA space legs). People are starting to realize that Star Citizen isn’t getting anywhere so it leaves a gap. Elite is a pretty good game as is, many will disagree but I like the updates they’ve done in the last 1,5 year. Elite definitely is a working game, unlike Star Citizen.

First person mode would make the game a lot more attractive to more people. They’ve been working on the “New Player Experience” (rightfully so imo), so they’re expecting newer players to come in. No feature would pull as many people into the game as a first person mode. From a business point of view it makes sense, (would make them a lot of money) and many people have been requesting it for years, so it’s not a new or unpopular idea.

I’m not expecting anything myself, I would rather not get disappointed. However, I think space legs is one of the most likely things to come out if they’re really working on a “big” update.

I can't wrap my head around people expecting that much of changes/content/stuff.
Seriously, FD can't implement a fleet carrier for over one and a half year, stuff which is basically in game more or less since
two years (Gnosis, bases, etc etc etc).
And you believe the game will be completely rebuilt? If that's not a recipe for "expectationgeddon" I don't know what is...

You raise a good point, historically we shouldn't be expecting too much from FD for the New Era.

However, they will have been focusing nearly all of their team on this update for two years by the time it comes out. They are focusing on it so hard that nearly nothing else will have been done nor implemented within those two years. I have to think this New Era will be a sizeable and meaty update. If it isn't then what have they been doing for those two years?

I'm giving FD the benefit of the doubt and I expect something tangible and substantial. I might be foolish for putting some faith in FD, but eh, I've certainly been wrong about FD before, lol.
