Spinosaurus looks abnormally small and weak.

Hello everyone,
as you can tell I have a few concerns over the spinosaurus. Frontier said that they want all of their dinosaurs to stick to movie canon, the spino clearly doesn't. I understand that it looks nothing like it would in real life, but its not within movie canon. It's also too weak, a dev said that t-rex had the strongest base genome, in JP3 the spino is shown to be much stronger than a t-rex. (yes I know it was a juvenile but there are other reasons to believe that this thing was actively hunting tyrannosaurs) Those are my main concerns with the in game spinosaurus, I would really love it if these things were fixed. I understand that in real life a spino would stand no chance against t-rex but this game is not real life so do not complain about me wanting the spino to be stronger in the replies to this thread.

Thanks for sharing any thoughts down below!

As JP/JW fan who HATED the JP3 Spino- T.rex fight - I think this Spinosaurus is fine as is. T.rex should be able to beat Spino. After all Spinosaurus was a predator of fish, not armored dinosaurs, like T.rex was.

But compared to the movie spino? It seemed very small to me, maybe I'm just being dumb and nit picky.

Actually - the Spinosaurus in the game is based on the Spinosaurus from JP3 - they are the same size(about 13.4 meters/44 feet). But they are a bit small compared to the real life Spinosaurus - which was estimated at about 15.24 meters/50 feet long.

But frontier is supposedly sticking to movie canon which essentially retcons everything you just said. I agree that t-rex should kill spino irl, but in JP movie canon it is a mega-therapod hunter.

It was a tad small, but nothing I am losing sleep over.

I didn't notice. But then again there are people who are saying the Rex is too small and the neck is too thin because they based it on the JW Rex model. I think the Rex looks great and just like it did from the first movie.

Exactly, there are people complaining about ever aspect of the game now.

The game hasn't even been released yet, just a day short of week left and the forum has already turned into a steaming pile of whining. lol

Nope, just 44 minutes before it's 6 days left. :)

Well in terms of how the JP/JW T,rex looks compared to the real world T,rex. Yes - the JP/JW T.rex is a bit slimmer. But then the original JP T.rex model was built at a time when it was assumed that an average adult (11.9 meter/39 feet) T.rex weighed about 6 metric tons. Even in 2000, paleontologist estimated Sue the largest mounted T. rex(12.5-12.8 meters/41-42 feet) at weighing about 6.4-7 metric tons. We now know that T.rex was a bit stockier and heavier, by at least a metric ton. Sue's length has now been shortened slightly to about 12.3-12.5 meters/40.5-41 feet, but her weight has increased to about 8.4 metric tons.

Still Frontier based the JWE T.rex model on the T.rexes from the JP/JW series. And in that respect - it seems to be accurate to the series. So I have no problem with it, as it is .

The quadruped seal-looking thing was debunked a while ago due to the reconstruction of it using parts from several specimens of different sizes and ages as well as some non-Spino dinosaurs. Also why would Spinosaurus be so radically different from Baryonyx and Suchomimus?

Remember when the forum was full of hope??? Those were the good ol' days of 3 months ago [haha]

Yeah. It was nice and we didn't see Reddit level whining or complaint threads spammed.

it all went down hill after the march reveal. Everyone was nitpicking every little decision that was made :(

I think I will follow you and avoid the forum. I will be playing the game so I won't even care. If it's this bad now I hate to see what it will be like on June 12th and after.

But! It was only one T-rex! when you look the other T-rex in the IGN Video you see even when the other is still healthy, that the Brown rex Have a Bigger head and a Bulkier shape !

I think they are just using a bigger T.rex this time. They use the JP T.rex which is 13.4m in length while the JP/// Spinosaurus is 15m (and fought a 11.4m T.rex in the movie). So I think the Spino just appears smaller. Especially in the first shot of the Spinosaurus profile you can see how big it still is.

You sum it up very nicely. The Spinosaurus is still definitely the biggest therapod in the game thus far (even being confirmed by Frontier), and if you wish to have the absolute monster of a dinosaur that was shown in JP3 then you can always edit the genome to give it a bit more accuracy. After all, the canon generally points towards heavy genetic editing going on for the creation of Spinosaurus, so you'd just be recreating what happened in the first place. :p
