Spire Farming is indeed 2bil/hour ;)

coming to elite dangerous and not enjoying repetitive simplistic grind mechanics is a recipe for disappointment. Especially since they never really embraced ways for the community to create its own content (or abandoned any they once did).

Make your billions. delete credits from mattering for the rest of the game existing. But dont expect anything to actually spend them on that's not already in the game.

The dream of owning your own dredger that you custom build like a mobile base yet are able to directly fly and is destructible that you (and only you) can dock on ...is a cooler game than we apparently have any hope of playing.

I have to ask - if you're farming the spire-specific items (not the drops from Orthrus), why are you even in an instance with other players when it's going to make your life harder?
Instead of expecting other people to change their playstyles to suit you just switch to solo.
Lazy question of who should go pg who should go solo; you're quoting a proposal of doing things together in the first place... why even ask?

I mean it's like you're a rock concert, telling everyone to be quiet so you can listen to the sounds of nature. That's not what they're there for, and if you want to do that you're better off doing it without them.

The sensor range around spires is rubbish, they probably don't even know you're there unless they're actively checking their contacts history and take note of how many other cmdrs are in the instance.

That's funny because I had numerous talks with other commanders wishing for combined arms for years since Ody and now there's some things we can do like that in surprisingly, good performing instances.
Apparently my post sounded too bossy for you idk where that rock concert is going. I've checked just in case and it doesn't seem to be that way? But I think there is a healthier choice here and it doesn't involve going solo it involves not reading you at all. Maybe you should do that too since I've seemed to spark something in you. We don't mix, clearly.

Which spire sites are popular enough to give me a chance to actually meet someone there? I'm visiting the one on Cephei Sector XO-A b3 2 body (it's near maelstrom Oya) and saw another ships only twice (with no significant cooperation). I could use some more joint action...

Try spires around Taranis or Indra, those [Titans] are quite popular from what I hear. Most likely, they’ll be at the sites with an active progress bar.

This week, it appears to be Hyades Sector DQ-O b6-0 and Trianguli Sector BA-A d85 at Taranis, with HR 1358 at Indra. Some of the work there is quite likely to be done in a private group such as AXI’s though. Still a good chance of finding players in Open at those two though.

The whole thing where the Orthrus can, if hit at the right time, don't fire back, sounds like a gap that needs to be patched pretty quick.

But noting most of the kills seem to just be from outright ganking, well, economy has been botched since nu-mining. This is just status quo these days.

Orthrus just doesn’t fire back no matter what. It’s got no weapons, only the shutdown/anti-Guardian field. Which… I guess might make it slightly less of a slaughter?

I’m not even sure how this would be that fun, as the primary targets literally don’t have any effective means of fighting back(the only one that is can be relatively easily countered through shutdown field neutralizers, and putting on AX missiles/multis). The Banshee disruption missiles are evidently not enough of a hazard to really change anything about it either.

But to each their own, I suppose.

It also summons additional scouts and immediately flees.

The 'fix' i suppose would look something like:
  • Orthrus actually react regardless of when they get hit.
  • aggression against one induces reactions in all

The enemy when fighting Orthrus is time. Bringing a wing puts time on your side... and i don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.... but this is very much like the problem with massacres where aggroing one doesn't aggro the group (except a bit worse where there's no reaction from the aggressor)

This would mean all Orthrus would start fleeing at the same time, and four batches of scouts would arrive at the same time (and 4 x emp i guess, which would also be offset based on reaction speeds)... where being able to readily regroup (and shields of the Orthrus not going up in time).

Again, i don't think this is necessarily terrible apart from the lack of reaction, but it could stand to be a bit less... simple?

Sometimes shooting at fish in a barrel can be quite a relaxing experience, especially if they're worth 40m a pop. :D
I mean... to put 2bn an hour into perspective, that's equivalent to:

  • ~67,000t of gold traded per hour
  • ~ 5,000 engineered ship kills per hour
  • 300 assassination missions per hour (One every 12.5 seconds)

Eh... but yeah... economy is just a smashed waffle.

... well, economy has been botched since nu-mining. This is just status quo these days.

the economy in this game has never worked in some logical or fair manner unless you consider it being lopsided in different ways at different times fair.

fdev has used credit rewards to balance the lack of higher level game mechanics and it's a losing battle. newbies and veterans play this game doing the same things for the same things. there's no good way to balance that.

so players optimize this broken system out of the game by accruing insane credits. credits only serve the purpose of a speed limit to players trying to play the game. it serves absolutely no other purpose because the game's economy is not simulated based on non-infinite resources (and in many cases it's not based on any quantity).

this broken system has been this bad from the start. it's just carriers and engineers has increased how many credits you need to eliminate credits from the equation.

the faster and more players can accomplish that, the better. there's really no downside to that... but a lot of negatives to increasing time to what you actually want in the game.

If the group only attacks Orthrus which jump in to the instance (not the ones leaving the spire which jump out), they don't react at all - no EMP, no guardian melty field and no attempt to flee. All they do is attempt to move around and scan stuff while being pummeled.
The banshees are usually cleared by a few people early on and they never respawn as long as the instance is held open.

The payout is equivalent to 4/5ths of a Hydra, but each one takes less than a minute to kill.

Yeah, I was referring to the idea of them getting changed to actually react to being shot at while they are busy flying in/scanning barnacles. Know they fire off the field if they are leaving and get bothered.

no need to keep selling it. it's awesome. everyone in open, working together in peace while simultaneously eliminating credits from the game in a dynamic environment with a decent amount of stuff going on.

We're on board already!

There’s definitely something broken with their AI
