Spontaneous death by touching a teammate's ship.

This is a bit of a PSA I guess. "Stay away from other people's ships, even if they are friendly."

I was on a planet with a wingmate, I mean teammate. And I was on foot standing of the nose of his Anaconda, pointing my gun at his cockpit joking that I was within minimum range of his hardpoints (not that he had any guns equipped anyway). He then started the engine so he could deploy hardpoints, but before he even got the chance to deploy them I spontaneously died, lost all my data, and then my SRV spontaneously self-destructed, empathic suicide I guess. The Anaconda did not even move, it just started the engines and stayed there hovering 1m above the ground.

Considering all the crazy things we can survive in the game, I didn't think something I could feasibly do in real life would kill me. Imagine sitting on the hood of a car and spontaneously dying when someone turns on the ignition.

Yeah crazy how engines that lift hundreds of tons of mass against many gravities can kill you without even moving said mass. I mean it's just like a jet engine right and how dangerous are they when the plane isn't even moving?

Since on-foot weapons are not balanced with ship stuff, nobody can be allowed to ride a ship into battle. Thus, instant death if you try to.

In the early days, I tried to surf an Apex shuttle, only to die instantly upon take off, but I remember that it was actually fixed in one of the first updates (it was in the notes), and surfing was possible, to some extent.
So many bugs return after an update, this might be one, I suppose 🤔

CMDRs can stand right in the exhaust of the main engines of a boosting ship with no ill effects. They just tend to get yeeted by fairly gentle contact with shield bubbles or moving ships and latency issues don't help.

I am sure I remember a long time ago trying to fly up the exhaust pipes of a carrier of megaship and that didn't go well at all if I recall correctly, have they nerfed that of does it only apply to really big ships?

Funny thing is, NPCs that climb on ships don't take damage when the ship moves like we do. First time I learned the first one was when an NPC got somehow dropped on top of my Imp Eagle. I dismissed the ship, and the guy just hitched a ride until the ship dropped him off. He fell off from thargoid knows how high, and landed without a single broken bone or bruise.

Later (when I didn't have missions on me), I tried dismissing the ship with I was on top and learned what you just did by making a quick visit to the hospital.
