Spotify integration for custom music

Just throwing this out there, how awesome would it be if Spotify were integrated into the game?
Obviously you would need an active account and an internet connection to be able to use it, but it would make it easy to put custom music on rides.

I've searched the forums for a simillar idea, but since I haven't found one I figured I'd make a thread about it.

I think this would be way to expensive for Frontier as this comes with copyright and stuff.

Not with what Dragondir is saying. What is being suggested is that if you have a Spotify account it would be great if you could select a track in the UI interface. and that way play from there. You as an account holder are already paying Spotify a fee for listening to the music.

I don't see it happening at all but the premise is cool to think of in future.

I've never used spotify, is it like pandora or itunes? I just get most of my music from youtube

Oh yeah, Spotify is a music stream service where you pay an x amount (for me it's free, comes with my internet provider KPN) for unlimited access to millions of albums, artists etc.

@Curlyriff
Well, you still need to make a connection between Spotify (or whatever service that is at hand) and Planet Coaster. So this still needs development time and a tool/app to make sure you can play it in Planet Coaster. And I don't think Spotify will agree with this free of charge.

Em you just said what I said and why it will never be integrated in that it will be so much work to get a player such as spotify to link and understand how to link to ride just wont happen.

And it isn't free of charge in that anyone can use it. You need your account that you pay, every time you play a song on Spotify the artist is paid like 0.0001p or something silly like that. It would make no odds to Spotify how the song is played as long as I have paid my subscription.

If you don't have a spotify account then it wont work would be the point. As you have said and I alluded too without wanting to put too much context in though, it will never happen because at no point will Frontier work with Spotify to create code to get them to cross talk and work as suggested. The time, cost and result would be so far from each other that it makes no sense.

Misunderstanding: What I mean is that Spotify wouldn't let Frontier make an connection without being financially compensated for the use of Spotify in the game. So not only the end-user needs to pay but Frontier also.

Only the sun comes up for free in 2017.

Besides, you can use Spotify for free but it is then very limited in its use.

Ah apologise. Yeah you are correct in regards to requiring some kind of licencing agreement between Frontier & Spotify, which I feel would never happen in my opinion anyways.

However my train of thought though if anyone was ever going to do something like that would work better as if it was a radio station in game for cars like in GTA or even Star Citzen. With that what you would look at is offering only a paid for subscription where users who already have premium accounts log in. For users who don't they have to purchase said account and so Spotify would get 'X' number of new subscribers by this so it is in both interests to do so and thus actually that licencing payment I feel would not be the issue but just the technical side tbh.

im confused

you can listen to any music you want while playing

or do you mean that the rides play tracks from spotify?

That's also an interesting thought yes indeed.

But I think that using MP3's still is a better way for it to be integrated in the game.
Still, I do like the thought of combining the best of two worlds (PC & Spotify) but I don't see it happen.

@Ramm
Yeah, playing the track directly from Spotify in your rides.

I would not care to have this because streaming music services would not work or make any sense... you need an actual file for the game in order to mix/fade, pause, fast forward, etc.

I already imported over 200 tracks from the RCT series into my PC game and, Most of the time I play with game music off and I listen to real music that wont loop or overlap with other songs.
you can get the RCT soundtrack here - https://youtu.be/tJ2khNlfcJQ

It isn't just a steaming service, if you have a premium you are able to download to your machine also any music on there. Further to that though that is the principle of why I said it is technically very difficult to allow the actions are describing. It isn't that it wouldn't be possible legal or anything but the technical ability to allow you to use the track from the service is the hard part.

I am not one to play with music off and listen to my own in games because the music for things such as in PC is important but I understand why you would want too and a lot of others likely do also.
