Newcomer / Intro Squadrons in Solo Mode.

Hi everyone.

I'm still playing in Solo mode just doing my stuff exploring and am just about to set off back to my home base from what will be a circa 12000ly round trip after mopping up loads of undiscovered systems. I was wondering how Squadrons work in Solo (or is it just that they don't?) I'd like to have a reason for doing stuff I guess, as in contributing towards a common cause whilst going about my travels. I wasn't sure if such things as 'Solo mode Squadrons' existed whereby the contributions of a single player could still be used collectively in a larger group of players.

Or does Solo mode mean exactly what it says?

Thanks very much. 👍🏼

You can do some stuff that contributes to your squadron in any mode, depends on the squadron. Most squadrons will have their own Private Group (mine certainly does) so you can fly "connected" in the PG with your squadron players.

Ah that sounds OK 👍🏼 A Private Group sounds just the thing. My combat skills are bordering on zero and so I was looking to avoid Open mode until I do at least stand half a chance of defending myself. Is it as easy as just Googling 'Elite Dangerous Private Groups' or is there more to it than that? i'm on PS4 just in case that makes any difference?

Thanks for your help 👍🏼

There are (just about) as many private groups (PGs) as there are players - since each account can start their own PG. Some people have more than one account, which would balance out the number of players who never bothered.
One of the largest, with absolutely no PvP, is Mobius. And yes, the platform makes a difference - PGs are only available on the same platform as the creator is operating on. But Mobius is present on all platforms.

Open is not as fearsome as some would have you believe. There are places that attract murder-hobos (engineers, community goals, etc) but in the main you are going to be safe as long as you avoid those hot-spots. If you look at the top-right of this page you will see the current highest threat areas for murder:

You can find out about squadrons and groups on INARA and on these foums - also there is a PS4 sub-forum too.

Lastly - the most popular PG is are the Mobius ones - see elitepve.com for info.
