General / Off-Topic Squirrels of the world unite.

Optical fiber ?

:D

Why not I say?

And we haven't had a squirrel in quite a while......

Speaking of which:

I just posted in another thread and went outside onto the porch of this bungalow we are staying in here in Thailand. First thing I saw was a squirrel running across the roof of the bungalow opposite.

Some weird type of synchronicity there.................

I'm guessing that the video of what happened when someone's pet anaconda found a squirrel in it's pool would be inappropriate. Spoiler alert it doesn't end well for the squirrel.

We are currently looking after four orphaned greys over the winter period in our purpose built squirrel enclosure down ta bottom o' the garden .

Wifey has named 'em Huey , Louie, Cyrila and Moanna.

ps. all true

There is a squirrel in my garden. I give it 4 or 5 hazelnuts nuts each morning. They are for it to eat but the stupid thing keeps running off with them and burying them in the flowerbeds.

Nothing stupid here. It's the nature. The animals make provisions for the difficult times.

I know :) I like watching them eat though and it is spoiling that for me.

I can get within about 6 feet of it now because it sees me putting the nuts out for it, maybe I can get close enough for it to bite me :D

Ouch. :(
That's a 100 bucks down the drain...
And that is if the head survives and the tail is belt driven and doesn't get bent...

I hate to tell you this but... try about 10.000 Euros. This was a turbine powered helicopter, back in 2009 when these things were even more expensive than they are today.

However on the plus side, I can tell you that the owner and pilot deserved it. I was doing some show flying at this event. He came there with his expensive scale model and started extending his 35MHz antenna, which prompted me to tell him that 1) there were lots of spectators nearby, 2) he was using an unsafe and deprecated control system, and 3) I checked and heard voice transmissions on the 35MHz band, most likely from foreign truck drivers on the nearby highway.

He rudely dismissed me, mocked me for using a 2.4GHz FHSS system (basically all current RC transmitters use frequency hopping to avoid interference causing a loss of the model), told me that he "flew for 20 years without incident" so I should just shut up and get lost, to put it mildly.

He then lost control because of radio interference on the 35MHz band. Thankfully it happened while he was hovering, and nobody got hurt. This is a very large and heavy model after all.

Afterwards he complained to my club for me posting the photo of his crash on our gallery. I did not write any mocking or anything like that, I merely posted the photo but he wanted it taken down. Which of course wasn't going to happen.

So, while this is a spectactular crash of a very expensive model, rest assured that the owner had more money than sense and ultimately got what he deserved.

Ah. I see.
I didn't judge the size of the thing, it seems. I'm flying Raptor 50 and it seemed like a similar size and I know that most hits I produce cost between 100 and 500 quid. But yeah, I guess a turbine can self-destruct pretty spectacularly. :D

(Also I agree that some of the "posh" RCers (And jet pilots in particular, in my experience) sometimes really deserve the kick in the wallet)
