Given all the mission chatter about "cut the power and our forces will do the rest" - why can't we see those other forces doing "the rest"? Why can't we get more involved on the planetary base mission? As such we also need more reason to drive the SRV, such as mixed mode planetary assault missions, combining CMDR's and NPC's into a combined force being opposed by the base defenders, with the potential to lose that battle and fail the mission. Such missions could be simply to take down a specific structure, like those radio telescope looking communicaitons arrays, as a targetted assault, or be to totally flatten the base, or to capture the base.
We also need more than just scan shoot scoop SRV mission play, but new role specific SRV's would bring with them gameplay... What do I mean by role specific SRV's? Let me give you a curveball example, give an SRV a crane, give it's pilot the task of building / repairing / upgrading planetary settlements, not necessarily starports but those facilities without the landing pad could also be good venues for new types of SRV game play. So an SRV crane would allow lego block type construction of prefabricated structure modules.
I could write volumes on proposed gameplay extensions for planetary surfaces that the game could have, but hasn't (publicly) considered in the four and half years we've been able to land on planets - however, I feel I'd be wasting my time as we all know how (un)likely it is for good suggestions to get put into this games development plan.
