Srv is just...... Bad

So I've played this now for a couple hundred hours and really getting into it.
Done bounty hunting, haulage, void opal mining data courier etc and collected some off planets. Now I try some planet data missions.
Killed off the turrets, alarms going off everywhere. Get to the data point pylon goes up target it and where the frig is the button to scan??? It's showing as the secondary but for some reason the secondary button from the ship is now the target button (hotas x). Looked in controls and there's nothing. Made it another firegroup and it works after switching firegroups but cmon why can't is use the same f.. king settings as my ship and why is there no way to rebind them in the options? Why does my secondary fire not work on srv but works I'm my ship

We each have to go through this rite of passage with the SRV ..... it's one of those quirks that appears never to have been fixed.

The SRV has separate controls from the ship, for obvious reasons. And you can most definitely rebind everything, including the fire buttons.
I could tell you where, but I wouldn't want to make you ashamed of having to rely on somebody else to do something this simple.

Oh, top-tier passive-aggressive insult there, combo with not actually helping the guy.

It's in keybinds.

Actually no. You could tell me all day where to look and I would still never get it.
ED is one of those games that it is best to learn it your self.
As has been said many times. STEEP learning curve.

Default bindings are a bit out there, and a previously unused SRV's default firegroup can be a bit odd depending on when it was purchased. Once time has been taken to set it all up the actual vehicle is excellent imo, just as with the ships.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the speed is measured in metres per second not mph or km/h, it's more like driving a paris-dakar truck than a road car.

Just like with flying, driving also comes with a pretty steep learning curve attached, which isn't as obvious though because driving feels more familiar I guess. It takes some practice though to familiarize with SRV controls and many of the controls I set for it differ from my ship controls. I even use a few different buttons for driving with and without turret activated... And control while jumping is another thing entirely. :D

If the target on the red thing at the top of the post goes above the field of view, yeah something weird happens.

Get in your turret, point at it with the mouse and it always works. Sure it’s inconvenient in the middle of a firefight.

You can do that from your ship. You don't even need to get in the SRV at all.

Are you one of those people who smacks his kid for getting ice cream down his shirt? Thanks for the tip.. Not. Bet your a real joy to live with

Thank you, I've found it on your advice and now am data scanning like a mofo. Funnily enough I don't feel a bit embarrassed and now he can got back to smacking his kids for not understanding how to tie their shoelaces first time

Why is it for obvious reasons? Primary fire and secondary fire do the same thing in an srv and a ship so why are they on separate buttons? The point I am making is there is absolutely no obvious way to bind secondary fire or even see it in the control mapping of the game

Because of the time I spend in the air using the SRV, I like to bind steering to the rocker on the back of the throttle, with jump being the top button on the throttle's side, which is the same as up thruster.
I use the main stick for pitch and roll as well as turret controls.
Switch to turret is my FSD button. All other controls are consistent with the ship controls.
I love the SRV. Once you have adapted to its quirky nature (having to zero throttle when landing to minimise spinouts) I think it's a great little toy.
And with locations like Dav's Hope, it's the toy that keeps on giving!

Really? I thought they “fixed” that ages ago. It would be awesome if you could do that again.
It's certainly been present in the game for over two years without break. I noticed that if you're in a different ship from usual, it's possible to get too close to the pylon and lose the target reticule.

(Video is still processing; it will look nicer in a few minutes. Promise!)

Never had a problem with being too close, but sometimes it can be tricky to get large ships close enough. For example, I usually have to invert my corvette if I'm scanning datapoints with it as the nose sticks out 90m+.

If you want to learn some tricks to driving the SRV, head over to Kumay this weekend and catch up with the Planetary Circumnavigation people (there are lots of us driving round the planet at the moment). The SRV is an amazing machine when you know how to drive it.
