SRV scanner volume

I was wondering is there any tweaks or mods I could do to the game or game files to make the SRV scanner volume louder?

As it is now the different noises are pretty useless as you cant hear them over the noise the SRV itself makes.

A long standing bug/issue that has gone unaddressed for well over a year.

The scanner sounds were once nice and loud back when the SRV was first introduced in 2.0. It got borked after a 2.0 update and has never been fixed, despite hundreds of bug reports and complaints.

Put a support ticket in to join mine and assuming hundreds more request for this to happen!!

Constantly gets overlooked in each update/upgrade. Thought it might have got tweaked when the fixed the wave scanner signal (Visual) issue a few updates back, but got a stiff ignoring.!!

Good Luck

Damn Ninja'ered by an Elite forum member. I am humbled ;)

Yes, long over due QoL fix. The visual updates mitigate the issue some, but when you are looking for something very specific, the tones matter.

Yup, I agree, the sounds are miserable but use earphones, I can hear them really well and I can adjust the level easily.

I play with headphones to not disturb my roommate (she says it's called spouse for some reason) and the headphones do help, but I still have to slow down to an almost crawl to pick up the tonal variances. I would say I am getting old, but the VA insists my hearing is "fine" :p

Yes, far too low. If I change the sound mode on my TV it's much better but only for boosting that sound as the rest of the audio becomes poor. Awkward trade off.

Yep, I also wish the wave scanner volume was way louder. It's been bug reported and suggested so many times that I fear the developers just don't get it; like they don't understand why we would want to hear the unique sounds they programmed into the darn thing. It's super frustrating..

Despite having a volume slider under Audio in the Settings menu, despite cranking it all the way up, the ONLY time I can hear the SRV wave scanner is when the SRV is sitting still, I have headphones on, and have my headphone volume at max, and even then it's incredibly hard to hear.

I have a couple of friends who play who have not-so-good hearing who simply cannot hear the wave scanner at all - and one who is completely deaf, but that's not a game-related issue.

Needs to be pushed up near the top of QoL fixes.

The problem is that the wave scanner volume slider sets the volume relative to the main sound effects slider. In other words, setting sound effects to 50% and wave scanner to 100% means that wave scanner is actually playing at 50%. Setting sound effects to 50% and wave scanner to 50% means that wave scanner is actually playing at 25%.

Unfortunately, just separating the volume levels individually isn't the only thing that's needed. The audio for the wave scanner also needs to be boosted at a base level across the board because I don't want to have to put sound effects quieter globally so that I can hear the wave scanner on the occasions I hop into a SRV.

Again, super frustrating.

Yup! and mine!!!!!!!!

EDIT: the MODS threw my thread into newcomers section, it's probably gone unread, unnoticed, unloved, and now sitting, rotting with some old seaweed 4 miles under the pacific rim by now!

Yep, I get that. I have my main volume at 100%, I've adjusted my other sound levels down as seemed most appropriate, and overall, I'm quite pleased with how things sound - except the wave scanner, which is only slightly louder than fly fart.

Aye, in my other thread an observation was that unfortunately, scanner volume is still linked to 'sound effects'.. so at max, the wave scanner is drowned out by all the other sound effects, and if you reduce the slider the scanner volume is reduced against other sounds.. so scanner maxed at 100%, is still tethered to the overall volume under 'sound effects'... reduce the sound effects slider, and it makes everything proportionately quieter as well including the scanner. Ideally what we need is the scanner to be unlinked from the generic 'sound effects' volume and given a 50% volume boost so folks can reduce it to taste.

Yup, played with the sound scanner slider and went DOH! when I realized how it works.... lmao

I think I will take a break from the srv and try getting some shield data..

I even tried playing with a dolby 5.1 audio software config, to see if I could split off certain frequency and sounds. ALAS no. gutted. The nearest I got was disabling the front center, but that removed the scanner sounds completely, and amplified the other sounds I wanted to get rid of..... splitting the center off completely just sounded pap, and didn't make the scanner volume any higher.

Saddened panda.

Someone from FDEV must be able to twiddle with this for us! [yesnod] [heart]

I wanted to mention that if you pay close attention to the visual display of that scanner, you will soon start being able to pick out specific types of outcrops, meteorites etc just based on what the lines on the scanner look like and how they are behaving.

No doubt, having the sound accompany these scanner displays would be an immense help, but I have learned over time to use that scanner pretty effectively by just using the visual cues.

I'm running with a full 7.1 Home Theater audio setup for my PC rig.

The scanner sound is buried in the SFX mix as was pointed out by someone else. It is not routed to the discreet center channel feed as I think it probably should be, along with the ship voice and other CENTER focused audio that is discreet Center Channel.

The reason the SRV tire and engine sounds drown out the Scanner audio is because the scanner audio effects are improperly mixed way back behind the volume of everything else, and there is no way the user can change that. [blah]

The dedicated slider does nothing of real use when the source isn't routed to the Center Channel and instead is premixed with a bunch of other sounds which are all louder.

Pretty huge oversight on FDEV's part. Especially considering the audio team is traditionally the most competent team on the game.
