SRV Uncontrollable Acceleration

Problem:
SRV using keyboard and mouse. Sometimes a cmdr might experience uncontrollable acceleration. Giving it one "tick" of throttle and it zooms off smashing into stuff and the only way to stop it is using the handbrake. Trying to reverse throttle to slow down does the same but in reverse. It is an exercise of feathering the throttle one tick fwd, one tick reverse, and constant use of handbrake.

Temporary Solution:
Logout out/in. This seems to fix it. Okay if you are farming raw mats or doing exobiology. Terrible solution for a Guardian site where everything will reset on you.

Longterm Solution:
Don't bother submitting an issue tracker report. Complete waste of time. There is no way FDev doesn't know about this issue, its been around a very long time, and it is obviously not a priority to fix.

in EDO, you should disable Drive Assist
That's not a good solution for Keyboard & Mouse.
  • If you are using mouse scroll wheel for throttle: disabling drive assist also disables the scroll wheel.
  • Using disabled drive assist you can only bind a keyboard button for throttle which acts as an ON/OFF switch for throttle. So you must constantly feather the key. Stupid.

Also... this uncontrollable acceleration is most defintely a bug that can be fixed by logging out/in.
Also... drive assist should work. Its pretty sad that its broken and doesn't get fixed.

my bad
i had this problem and disabling drive assist solved it
BUT i use a hotas...

edit :
and i agree, it is very sad to not be able to play a single hour without being impacted by a bug or another !
with each update we have more new bugs than solved bugs, my opinion is that the game is slowly dying

Is your "SRV throttle increments" set to "continuous"? If not, try that and see. You should be able to hold accelerate to increase speed but, if you release the key, it should decelerate.

The Scarab SRV is realtively light on its feet compared to the Scorpion so low grav and icy planets make control of the vehicle a little more... slippy.

Actually it's the best solution for kb/m and for a wasd setup (w accelerate forward, s backwards, a steer left, d right, also roll left/right)
Do you not have to constantly feather the button bound for acceleration to maintain desired spedd? on-of-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off.....?

Anyway, usually drive assist DOES WORK with keyboard & Mouse. What I am describing is runaway acceleration that doesn't normally happen, but can be fixed by logging off/on.

I'm not saying drive assist doesnt work at all, i'm just saying DA Off is way better to control the srv
And yes, you keep pressed W if you want to run full speed and release it to brake - that makes it for a more responsive SRV since you dont need to keep adjusting the throttle, although it may require a brief adjustment period, it's really worth the effort

This is a very annoying bug. So annoying that the Drive-Assist is plain broken.
The people suggesting driving with Drive-assist OFF do not understand the problem.

This has been broken for a long time and I hope it finally gets fixed by Fdev. This is one of those long time bugs that SHOULD already have been resolved over a YEAR ago.

A) Runaway acceleration doesn't normally happen. It is a bug that gets fixed by logging off/on.

B) Drive Assist should work properly. It works much better now than it did 6 months ago.

C) When using SRV I should be able to use scroll bar for throttle. Regardless of wether Drive Assist is On or Off. Just like I did in Horizons. Just like I currently do with my ship.

I never had this bug when i started to play ED on XB using a controller.
So my recommendation to use DA OFF does not stem as an workaround to that bug.

It's just that i found the SRV to be really hard to drive using DA ON due to the constant need to fiddle with the throttle.
The moment i switched to DA Off, the driving become much easier. So much easier that when i started on PC i tried to replicate the control scheme to the kb/m setup i was using and invariably i ended up with the wsad setup i'm using and the DA Off way of driving. It makes so much easier to drive (or fly fwiw) the srv in any circumstances.

Lets play the game how you like it. Not how YOU like it

Heh :)

DA Off is the easy way to drive a srv (*)
And this is coming from someone who fly his ships in FA On for the vast majority of time (the only exception is when soloing interceptors when i do have to rely to a flight model that relies on FA OFF to clear the swarm)

*(at least that's the general consensus, although in the end it does come to preferences and habits - however some habits may not be the best way to do things, just the way we're used to do things)

Just went to work the guardian sites for SLFs and found this bug; been a long time since driving SRV and it is no longer fun with such a nasty bug. Add the insult to the injury; FDev appears to be losing serious ground producing a playable game, two bugs, this one and the mission boards bug appear to be winning = concur with statement above about submitting tickets - never had one fixed anyway. Really getting hard to enjoy this game after six 5 good years of fun. So sad really.

You have missed the point of this thread. Drive Assist is a feature in this game that worked just fine and now it doesn't. If you prefer to play a different way that's great, but irrelevant to the discussion of this specific issue.
I believe Drive Asssist was never meant for KB/M and therefore never worked. Apparently it now works even less. ;)

I think it's important to understand which behaviour we should expect from the game.

PS
By the way, Drive Assist should actually be called cruise control because that's what it does.

'Cruise control' was working just fine.. Before it broken :(
DA is ON as standard in ED, EDH and EDO. So you are supposed to use it. Also with mouse/kb. Especially with mouse/kb if you ask me.
