Stalker 2

I've reinstalled and started using the 'Omega' mod which fixes a lot of the bullet spongyness of the mutants (they're still dangerous, but a few headshots cleans them up) and tweaks the economy, doing much better now and actually starting to enjoy it :)

Well, I ran into a nasty bug last night, after which almost every trader I visited had no stock at all. They would buy goods but nothing I did seemed to correct the problem.

Fortunately I have a stock of saved games, and so could go back until before the issue occurred.

The event was associated with visiting here:

Rosin sml.jpg

where (in my case) the Rosin artefact could be found. I've reported it to GSC along with a save-file taken in that location. NB: Visiting the location may not be the cause.

The moral of the story is to keep a decent stock of saved games!

EDIT: ...and the bug is back........ ...great....... I'm not sure I can face starting over... 'blast and damn'...

Finished the main story last night, and immediately started again. Predictably near the end you end up in lots of very hard fights against armies of Exo suit wearing bad guys. No spoilers but you can't carry on in free roam after the end, It's ended.

There were large parts of the map I never even visited. This playthrough I will concentrate more on exploration and go to all the places I never went.

To be honest I rarely bought anything from traders. I was overloaded with stuff all the time anyway. I spend all my money on repairs and upgrades

I've been playing it 'in reverse'... in that I progressed the story so far and have since stopped following (or even tracking) it, and have gone exploring, picking up random tasks here and there, and setting my own objectives - as in 'I wonder what's over there??'

As for the trader issue... it's still playing up, but has become sporadic. At the next occurance I may unload all my mods to see if this helps... \o/

EDIT: the trader issue was mod related - now removed and all seems well... so far.... and P-H-E-W!!

75 hours in - still really enjoying it, with GOG indicating 26%... without quite revealing 26% of what...

Rain sml.jpg

...I can only think that it's the chance of it not raining.... maybe......

Huge 1.1 major update patch out today on Steam...and I mean HUGE. It's 110.6Gb which is practically a re-write. The patch notes are extensive
Gawd.... I'll start downloading now... should be ready for Christmas....

...and it's time to remove some or most of the mods.

1.1.1 (or something) today on GOG - a 'trivial' (by comparison 11.45Gb).

Can't fault the devs! I just wish that GOG posted patch notes somewhere obvious.

Having played a while today, 1.1 (and whatever else has been added) has definitely made the zone feel much more alive (a-live?) and more immersive... and dangerous!

Thank goodness that I've still got the mod loaded (and that it still works) to reduce the bullet-sponge-beasties.

This is starting to feel (overall) a lot more STALKERy.... ...cheeki breeki!

Haven't had the chance yet, my main connection to t'interwebs has gone down...something blown off a mast somewhere in the 80mph winds no doubt. The back up interwebs is fine for sponging around the forums and watching Netflix but not much use for anything else. With the galeforce winds set in for a few days at least, there'll be nobody clambering up masts or poles to refix anything unless they fancy an impromtu paraglide over to Norway hanging onto a dish

My friend in Unst reports the same variabilities in service, whilst we 'dahn sahf' only suffer with contention. Hope you get sorted before Norway and/or 🤶 arrives - this patch is a good'un and worth the bandwidth/wait.

...and today's patch is only 11.47Gb on GOG..... so around a 40 minute wait...

Does anyone know... when are the devs starting on their Christmas break... 🙃 ...at the risk of sounding churlish...

Well, I've just made it through the SIRCAA Institute part of the story, as hectic and chaotic as it was, and there's plenty in there for fans of Half-Life, with a few 'woah!' moments thrown in.

85 hours in, 33% 'complete'. I'd say that I'm getting my money's worth out of this confection.

What MODS are people using/recommending?

Game is currently sat in my Steam cart and I'm vacillating between hitting buy or remove.

Biggest issue is the 2hr limit I've got on Steam before I have to decide to refund or not (Do wish more games had a decent Demo mode) so it's not a massive amount of time for a game like this.

It's also on gamepass, you could sub for a month to try it out properly then opt to buy it or not when the sub ends...along with the new Indy game, FS 2024 and anything else you fancy. Cheaper than forking out for an initial try out on Steam in the case you don't like it 🤷‍♂️

I bought it on Steam (no regrets)...then discovered a day later it was also released on gamepass where I wouldn't have had to pay for it

Would require me to create a MS account which while I'm using Windows is something I'm actively avoiding. :)
