Stalker 2

Hmmm. Loved those original games.

So many games so little time!
Yup. Shadow of Chernobyl (once patched and modded) I still think is an excellent game. Graphically dated (arguably even in its day) but the a-life added so much replayability to a great game-experience.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for #2, and 'only' have another 6'ish hours to wait for the 153Gb (!) to download........ :censored: ...so... ETA: 2am......

From the trailers I think that it's going to an interesting experience going back into the 'same' Zone, to explore anew already well explored places.

It's proving to be graphically a bit janky and I really don't like in-game bullet-sponges - which the first mutant seemed to be. I'm still making my way through the training/prologue, and recall the orignal was slow to get up and running. #2 seems no exception.

So far it seems both familiar and alien. I'm not finding the voice acting particularly effective in setting the tone/mood - but, it's early days still, so we'll see. Having a protagonist with an American accent is also not sitting well with me. A Ukrainian voice with subtitles would be better. Hopefully this is an option somewhere/somehow.

And the blooming shaders seem to need to compile themselves at every first loading the game (GOG variant). I hope they get this patched ASAP as it's a right royal pain!

It also has Ukrainian voices with subtitles. The NPCs in English have all kinds of accents.

There will be graphics mods cause S2 uses Unreal Engine 5.

Nope, I take that back. It's compiling shaders every start now so it must clear the cache when you quit the game
Yup. Plenty of on-line commentary saying the same. Hopefully something they'll fix pronto.

I've made it past the prologue and have arrived in the main meat of the game. It's still very early days, but it has the same vibe as ShoC (Shadow of Chernobyl), althought the a-life is by many reports bugged and largely non-functional, with insta-spawning enemies abounding.

Plenty of other reported issues, but the devs seem to be on the case, and busy interacting with the reports, so, fingers-crossed!!

So far, I'm quite enjoying it. Very reminiscent of ShoC, including looted weapons (that seconds ago were turning you into mincemeat) being picked up in a likely unusable/unsellable state.

In the old games this was relatively early to mod out. In this one.... 🤷‍♂️

Early game hint: Take Warlocks' debt recovery mission. You can thank me later!

The stick drift when using a controller makes it virtually unplayable, I actually thought the pots on my Elite V2 controller were on the way out...besides it only being a few months old. I switched over to the Nacon V5 pro I use on the PS5 (which has contactless sensors on the sticks rather than potentiometers) only to find it just as bad. They seriously want to sort that out amongst the myriad of other bugs 😐

There's plenty of those on my list.

EG Perfectly functioning guns, once dropped, becomming almost unusable and unsellable. Rate of wear of gear. Crazy repair costs. Bullet sponge mutants.... I could go on...

It's all typical STALKER fare, and lots of relevant mods are already appearing... so...
