Standardize Outfitting

Outfitting a ship can be fun. Searching for a station that has decent outfitting is not. Many stations have holes in their outfitting or are inconsistent. For example, a station might carry class 8 Power Plants, not class 7 power plants or class 8 power distributors. There's also scenarios where you don't find what you'd expect to be there. Like a military base that doesn't stock weapons.

Stations should outfitter classes that can be seen in the Galaxy Map. For example, a class 6 outfitter stocks core internals up to class 6, a class 7 outfitter would stock core internals up to class 7.

There would also be two sub-classes depending on the industries in or around the station. For example, a tourism system might carry passanger cabins, but only a small selection of hardpoints. Or a military base would carry a full array of hardpoints and shields, but not mining equipment. If a station is excelling in one of their industries (a boom), it would bring discounts to the related modules.

lastly, there should be a few "master outfitters" in the galaxy, Maybe one per superpower, where you can buy any non-experimental module at a slight markup.

Just some ideas I've had.

Or a master outfitter in a permit locked system with everything on a 10% discount. You could unlock the permit when you hit Elite. :D

Its called Jameson memorial in Shinrhata Dezhra (hope I spelt that right) and its already a thing.

If you get your rank high enough with either major faction you will get a permit to a system that has full outfitting ;) got it a while back on my Xbox 1 account now all my ships are docked at that station and I go there every time to outfit (you do not get the price reduction bonus from Ruiz there though *sigh* but it does have EVERYTHING!)
I can get you the system name if you want but I'll have to log in to my xbox account where I have it bookmarked, but it's a permit system so you can't go until you get the required rank.

You're referring to the same system as above. It does have a discount of 10% but yeah LYR systems do offer 15%. The advantage is not having to shop around which is great if you're lazy like me. It's unlocked when you reach Elite in any profession not from navy rank. I am fairly certain there is no such navy locked system unless the feds aren't telling me something ;)

You are totally right, I completely forgot that I had also just ranked up to elite in trade on xbox! Good catch!

I have yet to find any Outfitter selling better than an E rated cargo module and decent capacity fuel tanks are also hard to find and many complete systems don't sell passenger cabins at all.

How about being able to place an order at a starbase and they get the item in stock for you - with a realistic delay and premium price for shipping?

The counter argument to that could be the technicians at that base are only qualified to work with lower end modules, but hey ho...

building your rig is part of the game design, so modules availabilty depends on economy/state
even worse, stocks at stations are limited, so it is possible they are just sold out when you check

You won't find anything better than E rated cargo racks as this is there only rating. Weapons are the same where the grade means nothing.

if you are looking for a system that has good selection, find a system that has a relatively large population and an industrial or high tech economy.

For reference, my current base of operations is in a high tech system with a population of about 14 million. The starport has just about every module, but the ship selection is a bit lacking when it comes to medium and large ships.
