Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I hate lawnmowers...went to start the 45 year old piece of scrap Westwood today...petrol started falling out of it. Now I'm raking around the workshed trying to remember where I put the 10m length of fuel hose I bought 3 years ago for something else.

I'm tempted to just go throw a match at the thing...but as a biker, the shame of being forced into buying a Honda as a replacement would haunt me to the end of my days

Welcome back @LittleAnt glad youre OK, I see your desire to not post as much soon went by the by in the last few pages, its like an addiction I know.

have you seen this? Just released. And for @Mole HD the only running is in the combat bits, it looks like theyve actually slowed down the walking for dramatic effect in the rest of it. And theres a strange tag on it 'In game footage', 'What does that mean?' many of you may ask, 'Ive never seen that in SC trailers before'....

I like how they didn't show off any combat until half way through.

People have done a lot of moaning about how Odyssey is all about the combat so nice of FD to show how its more than a pew pew game. Its also a screenshot generator!

So... is this some sort of analogy for CR or SC?

Reminds me of the old joke.

What's the difference between a Sinclair C5 and a bucket of poo?
You feel less of an idiot sitting in a bucket of poo.

I haven't seen that, i just watched.

"In game footage" means its rendered in engine, what they are doing is saying this is what the game actually looks like, not that the scenery is necessarily accurate, but the fidelity is. IE its not CGI, that is if you have the hardware to crank all the Graphics Quality at 4K, CIG do this in some of their adds.

For example.

I understand its problems and acknowledge them, one can do that and still appreciate it for what it is and enjoy it.

I have to ask, do you believe CIG (as headed by CR) has repeatedly lied to backers and misrepresented the state of the game and development to backers?

If yes, how do you justify yourself supporting the project?

If no, well, ok. But then i'm going to throw some quotes from CIG/CR your way and ask you how you square them with what actually happened.

Oh dear, not you as well.

Why do you think we hate Star Citizen?

Seems kinda self-evident to me... I come here excited about fleet week and I get beat up by an angry mob, LOL. Somebody point me to the thread where people are playing and enjoying SC.

Even if I do end up disappointed by fleet week, I'm not going to make this thread my new permanent home where griping about it is everyone's 24x7 hobby...

Always put people on the defensive, make them justify themselves.

I know there are problems, but what do you want from me? to be entirely negative about it? i have no interest in activism.

There you go, 3 upvotes from the folk on here who play the game regularly :D

It's not that bad in here, believe it or not...if you sift through the erstwhile extremes of positives and negatives occasionally posted here, this is the place where you can sometimes glean a measure of balance when it comes to a realistic view of Star Citizen which is almost impossible on the fan sites or elsewhere. I don't mind the critical posts, most of them are rightly directed toward Ci¬G and the mismanagement of the project. As for the playable offering that is the game itself...it has it's good bits and bad bits like everything else.

But I was told SC is not a game :p

I'm so confused...
It's not a released or reviewed game...the semantic behind that bothers some folk who do or don't play...besides lots of other stuff. Those of us who play every night potter about just playing what little gameplay is actually there. It's not a released game, it's certainly nowhere near a finished or completely playable state by any standard...but we still play it regularly for hours at a time and for the most part, enjoy the experience. The semantics confuse me too sometimes 🤷‍♂️

I love Star Citizen, at least my concept of it. I love Squadron 42 even more, at least what it was supposed to be. Unfortunately, the man who has been trusted with around 500M (so far) to develop both, has no clue what Star Citizen is. Even less fortunately, thanks to the law of monetary gravity ("a company's form will tend towards its most profitable business model, not towards its vision"), he turned the game into a collectible spaceship meta where the most important gameplay is throwing substantial amounts of real money to chase away the the menace of FOMO.

He also squandered a substantial amount of work already done by a group of A-list actors on something that at the moment looks like a collection of charred remains spread around every corner of the development hell.

Interestingly, despite his complete inability to deliver on his original promises, and despite throwing more promises (and lies) out there to fuel the marketing machinery of the collectible meta, he did manage to transfer several M of the 500M to his family's trust and buy himself a house in Palm Beach.

So, do I hate the game? To the contrary. But I do not like some of the key players.

That's a bit unfair...since I'm openly critical of Star Citizen, even more so of the idiot Roberts and his mismanagement of Ci¬G and the entire project...but I still support the project and have done so by chucking a fair bit of cash at it.... Yet nobody throws CR memes at me in here 🤷‍♂️
