I wasn't referring particularly on the player side of the hardware problem. You don't need a super high end rig to run SC.

A reminder that your performance outstrips the telemetry page by a fair whack Intrepid, and may not be the average experience.
According to that page the closest GPU / CPU build listed (slightly better GPU build there) on 1440P averages 43fps
I checked the schedule. It's not your day to be Derek. If you're Mr. Novak then i'm Derek Smart.
The telemetry page is probably being affected by SC hating goons that have accounts. They spawn where ever the performance is worst (probably New Babbage) and server hop until they find a particularly bad server. Then they sit in that bad server as long as they can to drag the averages down on the telemetry page.
The 3 mains problems with disks are :Sure, and i think most people these days have for a long time been playing on SSDs, so its especially funny when someone blames the HDD, saying install it on a SSD, when it already is, and then laugh as they flounder around looking for something else to blame it on.... anything, except for the game itself.
0.6 Scale, so a bit over half scale, that distance is still with in scale tho, they give you the distance, 2.2M KM at about 1KM/s maximum cruse speed, 531 Hours, so that's about right.
531 hours to reach the JPG star!
Hutton Orbital eat your heart out!
And remember, distances in SC are scaled down 10x!!!
Amazing how they did it without a bug causing them to respawn at a port as well!
Which is because the "high end" has advanced through multiple generations of CPUs, GPUs and chipsets in the last few years, while SC development has all but stood still. You don't need a super high end rig to run SC.

The 3 mains problems with disks are :
1 - game MUST be installed on SSD
2 - pagefile is needed and MUST be installed on SSD
3 - your total memory size (RAM+pagefile) MUST be at least 40Go because SC is HUGE on memory
If one of those points is not valid, you get crap FPS. The point 1 is well known by everybody. The points 2 & 3 are not so well known and are as importants that point 1.
For the ones having crap FPS with the game isntalled on SSD, the main reasons are often :
- windows + pagefile on first disk HDD and game on SSD because the SSD has been added only as second disk without moving windows and it's pagefile on it. Pagefile is slow = crap FPS
- disk where the pagefile is is full so the pagefile can't work. Pagefile not working = crap FPS
- windows without pagefile because the guy have read somewhere that pagefile was not useful for windows with 16Go of memory and should be disabled. Pagefile absent = crap FPS

1,000m X 60 Seconds = 60KM X 60 Minutes = 3,600KM X 531 Hours = 1,911,600KM, they were probably doing about 1100M/s
Edit yes its just a giant ball of light, its a placeholder, like Crusader is / was.

Can you really say that with a straight face? from Port Olisar to Grim Hex to Levski to Loreville to Area 18 to New Babbage to Orison.
From a single space station orbiting an inaccessible Gas Giant to 3 fully accessible planets complete with large cities sprawling many KM, 14 fully accessible moons, many different biome and climate variation, about 150 player usable ships ranging in size from 6 meters to 210 meters and days from now a Gas Giant made of Volumetric Clouds that has a huge city floating in it.
Just 109 more systems to go!
When Stanton is finished anyway. Remember Orison is still Tier 0! No whale tours yet! Answer the whale call!

The cities arent accessible. It's just like a texture. 150 flyable ships? Or just 150 jpgs? Days from now? We'll see about that. Something tells me it's just nollocks like Sq42 and the Tyler Napkin story of its progress. Can you really say that with a straight face? from Port Olisar to Grim Hex to Levski to Loreville to Area 18 to New Babbage to Orison.

Edit: the graphics fidelity has also changed hugely over the years.

Who?Most of the buildings are empty shells with a small portion filled-out for player use, small being relative, the player usable areas in these cities are still huge.
I mean what is he comparing this to? EDO????
With 32Go memory (which I have), the pagefile is still used...lol wut?
