Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Shaders and page file sorted out...

Do you have Anything else before I waste another day getting frustrated with this please?
It may seem contrary to good sense, but setting the graphics options to the highest settings (very high) in the options menu will also help smooth things out, turn of chromatic aberration and film grain too.

Well tried a trading run. Lost that investment!

It was a drug run (I think? E'tam) to Grim Hex. Got attacked when I jumped there and then jumped back out. Not sure if it was players but the ~ menu mentioned station guards, so I guess npcs? If so they didn't bother to scan at all. Wasn't just one, either.

So I jumped to Yela and then to an orbital marker. And then my ship kept telling me it had low power. Shields would start to power up and then the thrusters shut off. I checked the outside cam to see if there was any damage but I don't think so? The shields never dropped.

I tried logging out in the bed (rented an Avenger Titan). It tells you to log out with the F menu but I couldn't find the option anywhere. Regular log out losses the cargo.

RIP.

Bed logouts...you need to first select 'lie down' from the inner thought menu. Once you're laid down, hold the F key again and look around. The logout option will show up.

The bed logouts work...but logging back in to a ship bed will log you in OK but you may be at the centre of Stanton inside your ship when you do rather than where you logged out, it used to work fine...another thing Ci¬G managed to re-break during the course of several patches.

@[VR] Enexemander what's your SC handle? i'll shoot you 500K aUEC.
I was gonna offer up some UEC too, but saw this 🍻
Oh yeah, thanks guys but I like to be on the scrounging end of things to start with.

But seriously, thank you for the generosity!

I don't usually ask this kind of thing, but if anyone is feeling kind enough to drop me some UEC I'd be Very Grateful! I'm really struggling to get started in SC. My current SC handle is 3VE.

If anyone has any good suggestions for a great name in SC, that too world be great to hear! I've got one name change left that I can use...

My ideas so far:

DOA (I suspect that's already taken though)
Biscuit
Cookie
Chimbo (meaning old and wasted)
CRAT (can't remember a thing)
Foggy
NotSo
℃ (degreeC)
¯\(ツ)/¯ (this is probably not doable?)
⅒ (OneTenth)
BIOS
Unders (my surname is Saunders)
o7 (passing salute to ED on the way out the door)

I'd love to hear your suggestions! 🥳🍪

Lastly any help offered with getting started with SC would be most welcome! 😘

Thanks Mole!

I'll take a look at that! I'm using a 1080 Ti graphics card on a 32" UHD monitor. I have 16Gb of RAM and I'm closing everything else to free up as much ram as possible before launching. I don't know what would be the best resolution / graphics setting for this card? From your comments, I presume a higher quality setting and a lower screen resolution is better? Obviously the monitor runs best in its native UHD resolution but there must be some trade off with SC.

I'll drop you some aUEC when I log in, add you to the contacts list as well. I can help show you around the rough do's and don'ts in SC if you're up for it...I'm not an exciting space pirate or general fisticuffs kind of player, I'm more the boring carebear...so if it's PvP action, I'd suggest Sovapid as a guide :)

Otherwise, check out Kate Byrne's Youtube videos on her getting to grips in game as a complete SC newbie from an Elite commanders perspective...they're very good, very informative and entertaining to boot.

A bit of a different topic: Death of a Spacemen.

What are people, that pledged for a long time, thoughts on this? You knew this when you were pledging, right?
Ways to avoid griefing - would it be possible or just wishful thinking?

Do you belive they will go through with this? Or will it change before the release?
What kind of impact will it have on the player? Will players avoid the game because of it?

I'd suggest 1080p at highest graphics settings on a 1080ti, although it'll handle 1440p quite happily...whatever you're happy with. SC is more system RAM and CPU intensive than GPU...so running at the highest level of detail farms a bit more work out to the GPU...it runs smoother. If you're not already, make sure to run SC from an SSD if you have one...it matters.

Besides that, don't go expecting big fps numbers, depending on where you are, framerates can be as low as high teens...even on NASA build PC's so anywhere between 30 to 60 fps away from the major spawning areas (Lorville, New Babbage, Area 18) is good :)

Not knowing what CPU you have, plus the 16Gb of RAM...I'd suggest trying 1080p as a base graphics resolution....SC is a bit of a system memory and CPU hog at higher resolutions. If you have an AMD CPU with 8 cores...it'll help too.

Awesome! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 you are a mega Star!

I really appreciate your help and guidance! 😘❤️

I've started to explore but obviously I'm stumbling around blind atm. I managed to find a refinery and have baught some basic hand mining kit (multitool) and a mining suit. I'm in an Aurora MR so options are very limited.

As you can tell from my avatar, I'm not one for pew pew either so you are the kind of guide that would be great! I'm very much the CareBear type too! (and Proud lol).

I'm at home atm, so I'll be on later this morning and afternoon if you are around? I can be online in the evenings too but I do try to spend time with my wife in the evenings (I'm a lesbian, hope that isn't a problem). Weekends are obviously easier.

Chat later Mole!
Maybe on Discord?

Are there any current ships to Fuel Rat in?

I notice the Vulcan seems to fit this role, but not released yet. Looks great though:

Being an ex rat...it was my intent to bring fuel ratting to Star Citizen back when I was a wild eyed and hopeful child  ...There's one current refuelling ship, the Starfarer, but as yet...no refuelling mechanic at all.

The Starfart is the huge edifice in the background of the pic...I no longer have mine, I melted it a while back since it was all but useless for purpose :(

Sure thing...I'm on GMT (UK time) but I can be on any time that suits. Discord ID is Mole HD#8169, it's my public discord account and no big secret so I don't mind posting it :)

I have a few ships we can faff around in, perhaps do a bit of ROC mining. I've been around SC for quite some time just collecting the odd ship here and there... SC handle is Mole, no HD. I've sent you a friends request in game so you should get it next time you log in.

I believe I'm using an i7-5820 CPU which has 6 cores. The computer is a couple of years old now! I didn't realise that SC was so CPU based.

I bought the PC for doing photo editing... So it's not a gaming power house I'm afraid. I'll start at 1080p and if that is good maybe try 1440p.

I'm in the UK so I'm not usually awake at 5am... As you have been replying almost immediately, are you in a different time zone?

Sounds like you know your way around SC! I'm still in bed but once I'm up I'll fire up my pc. I have a few jobs to do this morning but should be online by around 9-10 ish, if not before.

Glad to hear that you have managed to find me in-game too. Thanks for the Discord friend too!

Awesome! This afternoon should be fine for me too. I have a couple of removal guys moving some of our stuff in from our old house (recently moved to Witney in Oxfordshire) but that shouldn't be a big deal.

PS I'm a formulation scientific team leader. Or put simply, I develope new drugs. 🥳

Because you always refute the state of alpha while in fact, and reality, SC is still a real alpha !
The new player experience in all alpha games is absent. NPE start to be worked in beta only. You were lost in city ? There is a minimap in SQ42, perhaps the minimap will be added to SC later, we don't know. For now, just follow the signs written "spaceport". You want a turorial in game to learn how to dogfight ? In 3.14, capacitors will completly change how dogfight work. You want to learn the radar system ? Same thing, all will change in 3.14. You were stuck in the hangar door ? Too bad but after few days of playing, almost everybody learn to avoid this problem. You see a black hole in the ground ? First time you walk on it and die, the others you just wait that the texture pop and you can continue to play... You see ? It's an alpha.

I never refute that its alpha. What i do is take the mickey out of backers who waffle on like its the best game ever when its being praised only to immediately play the alpha card as soon as there is criticism. If anything, its the faithful who refute that its an alpha when people talk about bugs and say "it must be your computer, it never happens to me".

As for the new player experience, just because its an alpha it doesn't mean that it needs to be difficult. However, i'm totally understanding that complex games are not easy for new players. FD have taken flack for many years about their new player experience and even after many changes, people still have difficulty.

Now, would you agree or not that its easier to get into SC if you have someone to hold your hand? Because that is what i said.

As for getting lost, having to watch a tutorial or something to find my way around an area would be a bit strange, when the area could be designed with better signposting. I mean, consider how much time and effort CIG have put into the development of these areas, there could be have been better signposting. No need for a tutorial then just to show you how to get to the starport. The problem is, the whole area is just too big, too many different routes, including those damn trains that eat up play time. But CR wanted trains, so he got trains.

all will change in 3.14.

Ooooh, we have a new Jesus patch coming? The patch that will make everything better!

Its amazing how the faithful keep falling for this. Its always the next patch that will make everything better, and when it doesn't, the mental gymnastics kick in, and it becomes the next next patch, or the one after.

You were stuck in the hangar door ?

No, my ship clipped into the ceiling of the hangar and got stuck there.

Too bad but after few days of playing, almost everybody learn to avoid this problem.

It appears you were not aware of this problem since you thought it was the hangar door, not the ceiling. And here we go, an alpha issue... but then these issues are never discussed when the game is being talked about in a positive manner, then all the bugs are conviniently ignored. Are you sure you don't want to blame my clipping into the ceiling on my computer rather than the game? I can start a new bingo card!

I mean, some of that is just a complicated game is complicated.

The first time I played odyssey, i took a taxi to a different station. (love the taxis) at the next station i knew i had no ship there and would need to transfer a ship over and i couldnt figure it out for the life of me. there are consoles all over the place that look like you should be able to do ship management stuff, but you cant.

Eventually googled it and figured out you have to go to the npc that sells ships and do the transfer there. There was a ship selling location, but no npc behind the desk. Still not sure if that was a bug or not, but ended up taking a taxi to a different station. I didnt have a fit because i couldnt figure it out......

Yup, just said as much. Complicated games are complicated.

But the whole areas in SC are needlessly big i feel and finding your way around is a challenge. At least in Odyssey stations you can run around the whole area in a matter of seconds. Its not like you can get lost.

As a noobie to ED just after EDH dropped I found it a steep learning curve! I really feel for anyone trying to get a handle on it now.

I'm now facing the same stupidly steep curve in SC... Deep Breath. I know I'm going to need it!
